LONGMEADOW, Mass. (AP) — Police have identified a tractor-trailer driver who was killed in a highway crash involving several vehicles in western Massachusetts near the Connecticut line. Massachusetts State Police said Sunday that 33-year-old Anthony Gentile of Thomaston, Connecticut, died in the wreck involving two tractor-trailers and four other vehicles on Interstate 91 northbound in Longmeadow on Saturday morning. The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Troopers say a Peterbilt tractor-trailer slammed into the back of another tractor-trailer that had slowed because of traffic from a line painting project. The Peterbilt then hit four cars before crashing through a guardrail. Gentile was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fatal construction accident in Gloucester has ties to Bellingham Co.

GLOUCESTER, MA – A 27-year-old Gloucester man died Thursday in a construction accident in that city, in a project reportedly involving a Bellingham company. Justin Harrington, 27, was working alone as part of a home renovation project at the time, according to Steve O’Connell, a spokesman with the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. According to O’Connell, Harrington was using a mini excavator to dig out part of the foundation at the home, and became pinned between the equipment and an I-beam supporting the house. His body was discovered by a fellow worker at about 9:30 a.m. Gloucester Building Inspector William Sanborn told The Gloucester Times the building permit for the project was issued to contractor Ryan Hayes of Trust Design & Remodel LLC of Bellingham. O’Connell said Harrington was employed by MD MacEachern Landscape and Construction in Manchester – information was unavailable as to whether that company was a subcontractor for Trust Design & Remodel.

NC Dept. of Labor investigating workplace death of Columbus County man

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – An investigation is underway into the death of a Columbus County man who died on the job this week. Jason Tyson with the state Department of Labor said Friday afternoon that Kenneth Dewayne Soles, 37, died Monday around noon after falling through the roof of a building he was working on and suffering fatal injuries when he landed on a forklift. Soles, who was working for McDuffie Home Improvements, fell 20-plus feet through the roof of Southeast Paint and Body Shop at 570 Chadbourn Highway in Chadbourn. Tyson said the Department of Labor has started its investigation into Soles’ death and that it could take six months for a full report to be finalized.

Putnam County, OSHA investigate fatal construction accident

PANDORA, OH —A construction worker fell to his death in an accident Thursday morning in rural Putnam County. According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s office, at 10:07 a.m. its office received a 911 call reporting a male fell from a barn roof and was seriously injured at 13917 Road 2, near Pandora. Upon arrival, Elmer D. Christner, 21, of Geneva, Indiana, was found unconscious on the ground with severe injuries. Christner had been removing sheet metal roofing from a pole barn when a cross member supporting his weight broke, causing him to fall approximately 26 feet to the ground. Christner’s injuries were fatal, and he was pronounced dead on the scene by Putnam County Coroner Dr. Anna Horstman.
