Florida Construction Worker Killed After Being Trapped Under Crane at Marina

Bradenton, FL — Authorities say a construction worker was killed and another worker injured when a crane toppled at a marina on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Other construction workers attempted to free Chadwick Adam Brown, of Pinellas, Thursday when he became caught under the construction crane at the Twin Dolphin Marina in Bradenton, Florida. Rescue workers freed him but he died a short time later. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports another worker was injured but the injuries weren’t life-threatening.

Lumberton officer killed responding to I-95 crash

LUMBERTON, N.C. (WNCN) -A Lumberton police officer was hit and killed while responding to a crash on I-95 Northbound Saturday morning, according to the police department. Officer Jason Quick, 31, was dispatched to the incident near Fayetteville Road around 6:10 a.m. While on the scene, a vehicle hit Quick just before 7 a.m. Local first responders transported him to Southeastern Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.  Troopers said that a driver hit Quick as he was attempting to walk across the northbound lanes from the inside lane to the right side shoulder. As of Saturday afternoon, troopers had not released if there were going to be any charges for that driver.

NC worker dies after being trapped on railroad tracks

SPENCER, N.C. (WBTV) – A contractor died after being trapped between two metal plates on railroad tracks in Rowan County Saturday. According to police, officers are investigating a death on the railroad tracks in Spencer. The man was trapped between two steel plates, but there’s no word on how he got there. Norfolk Southern says the man who died was a contractor working for them.

2 suspects sought after employee found dead at convenience store in Easley

EASLEY, S.C. (WSPA) – Easley Police Department officials have been investigating after a female was found dead behind the counter inside a convenience store Friday night. According to Chief Tim Tollison, the woman, who appears to have been a B Pam’s Food Mart employee, was shot. The Pickens County Coroner has identified the victim as 49-year-old Stacey Regina Branham.

Worker dies after being crushed by bus at Les Schwab Tire Center in Georgetown

SEATTLE, WA – A 55-year-old man was killed and a 29-year-old man was critically injured when a bus crushed them as they were working on it on Friday, officials said. The Seattle Fire Department said the bus fell on the men when a jack gave out at a Les Schwab Tire Center in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood.

North Slope Police Identify Worker Killed at Oilfield

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA (AP) — Authorities have identified the Alaska worker killed last week at a North Slope oil field. The Anchorage Daily News reports 36-year-old Shawn Huber died early Dec. 7 at Milne Point in what the North Slope Borough Police Department says was an “equipment accident.” Huber was employed by Kuukpik Drilling, a contractor for Hilcorp Alaska. Public records list a Wasilla address for Huber.

Worker dies after fall from Portland roof

Portland, ME  — The Portland Police Department says it’s working with Occupational Safety and Health Association, or OSHA, on a workplace death investigation. Police say a 30-year-old man working for a roofing company fell off a roof at 157 Congress St. at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. The man was taken to Maine Medical Center, where he later died.

Man dies in Baltic industrial accident Thursday

CLARK, SD — Mike Warkenthien, age 35, Sioux Falls, formerly of Clark, died as the result of an industrial accident on Thursday afternoon, December 13, 2018, near Baltic, SD. He was the son of David and Carol (Lamb) Warkenthien of Clark.

Georgia officer killed after traffic stop; suspect dead

ATLANTA, GA — A Georgia police officer and a suspect died Thursday night after a traffic stop led to a foot chase and shooting just east of Atlanta, authorities said. DeKalb County police Chief James Conroy said at a news conference that 24-year-old Edgar Isidro Flores and suspect died at an Atlanta hospital from injuries sustained during the Thursday evening shooting, according to news outlets. Conroy said the shooting followed a traffic stop. Conroy said the suspect fled, shot the pursuing DeKalb County officer and hid behind a business. The suspect then shot a police K-9, prompting officers to shoot the suspect, Conroy said.

Truck driver killed in fiery crash on I-95 in St. Lucie County identified by state troopers

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL — A truck driver died Friday morning when his vehicle veered off Interstate 95, crashed into a beam and caught fire, first responders reported. Christopher Laser, 32, of Ocala, was identified by Florida Highway Patrol as the driver in the single-vehicle crash. For some reason, the driver lost control and “veered off of the paved travel lanes and drove onto the western grass shoulder,” a release said.  The tractor-trailer crashed into a support beam for an exit sign, catching on fire and trapping the driver. Laser, who was pronounced dead on scene by St. Lucie County fire officials, was the only occupant.

Truck Driver Killed In Collision On Tuesday Identified

DUBLIN, CA — A truck driver who was killed in a collision between two big-rigs on westbound Interstate Highway 580 in Dublin on Tuesday afternoon was identified by the Alameda County coroner today as 32-year-old Henry Louis Rodriguez-Carrerasquillo of Sacramento.  The California Highway Patrol said a 2000 Peterbilt driven by Rodriguez-Carrerasquillo and a 2016 Freightliner driver by a 26-year-old man from Miami, Fla., were both traveling west on Highway 580 at about 12:36 p.m. Tuesday when, for unknown reasons, Rodriguez-Carrerasquillo allowed the front right of his big-rig to collide into the left rear of the other big-rig, according to CHP Officer Tyler Hahn.  Rodriguez-Carrerasquillo then lost control of the Peterbilt and it swerved to the right and overturned, according to Hahn.  He was crushed and emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene, Hahn said. 

Man dies after accident in Illinois steel foundry

GRANITE CITY, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say a 54-year-old man has died after being injured at a southwestern Illinois steel foundry. The Belleville News-Democrat and KMOV-TV report that Roy Evans of Carrolton was seriously hurt Thursday afternoon at American Steel Foundry in Granite City, east of St. Louis. He died later a hospital.

Contract Worker At LG&E Plant Dies On Job

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE 3)– A contractor working at the LG&E plant in Trimble County died while cleaning a piece a equipment. The man, identified as 24-year-old Jordan R. Doyle, of Maysville, died Nov. 12. Kentucky State Police said Doyle was inside a piece of machinery when some sort of incident occurred.Emergency crews responded and he was pronounced dead around 9:30 p.m. LG&E said the contractor was cleaning air filters.

Employee dies after an industrial accident at Roanoke Warehouse

ROANOKE, Va. – An employee has died from injuries suffered on the job at an Advance Auto Parts distribution center in Roanoke. The incident happened Thursday at the Distribution Center on Blue Hills Drive NE according to a statement from the company.  It happened around 2:30am.  Roanoke City dispatch, confirming an industrial machine fell on a person at the Advance Auto Parts Warehouse on Blue Hills Drive.

CLARK COUNTY, Ind. — A Charlestown police officer died last night after a pursuit beginning in Clark County ended in a crash in Scott County. Indiana State Police were alerted to the pursuit and crash around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday. Charlestown Officer Benton Bertram died in the crash. Bertram’s vehicle crossed over Ind. 56 and left the roadway, striking a tree in the front yard of a nearby residence

Police, OSHA probe worker’s death in Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Police and OSHA are investigating after a man died from injuries he apparently suffered while working at an old silk mill being converted into apartments. The incident happened Monday at a building in the 300 block of West Court Street in Allentown, according to the Lehigh County coroner. The property owner says a painter fell at the former Adelaide Mills site. The painter, Marwan Hajjar, 70, died late Monday night at the hospital.

Rock Hill construction worker, 64, dies after fall at Chester school, coroner says

CHESTER, SC — A construction worker from Rock Hill who fell after an electric shock in Chester County at a building site has died, officials said. Donald Totherow, 64, died Wednesday at a Charlotte hospital, according to officials with the Chester County Coroner’s Office. Totherow fell Monday after he received an electric shock while working at Lewisville Middle School, coroner officials said. The school is in Richburg, near Interstate 77.

Man killed in Amherst tree-cutting incident identified, mourned 

AMHERST, MA — Thomas Moszynski​, 38, of Easthampton, has been identified as the man who died in a tree-cutting incident in Amherst Tuesday morning, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office. Moszynski was doing work on Flat Hills Road when a part of the tree struck him around 9 a.m. He was transported from the location of the incident to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.

Deputy And 2 Others Killed In 3-Car Crash In Southern Colorado

VALDEZ, Colo. (CBS4) – A driver, a child and a deputy are dead after a three car crash in Las Animas County. Officials with the Colorado State Patrol say the crash happened Wednesday night on Highway 12 east of Valdez. One deputy, Sgt. Matthew Moreno, was killed in the crash. He was a five-year veteran of the Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office. Two other deputies were hurt.

Man washing windows at Trump hotel in Vegas falls to death

LAS VEGAS, NV — A man washing windows at the Trump International hotel near the Las Vegas Strip has fallen to his deathJonathan Garcia, of Las Vegas, fell to his death around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Clark County coroner. Garcia’s cause of death is pending. Authorities declined to release any other details about the how the man died early Wednesday afternoon. Witnesses said winds had pushed the rigging against the building several times before the man fell, reported KTNV-TV.

OSHA is investigating after Kimberly-Clark employee is killed on the job

Paris, TX — The Paris Police Department responded to an industrial accident at 1:46 p.m. on Tuesday at Kimberly-Clark. “An employee, identified as Carl Kuhle, age 60 from Bogata, was struck by a vehicle at the loading dock area,” said Officer Curtis Garrett. “OSHA will be investigating the incident.” Kuhle died as a result of the accident. 

Police point to fumes in worker’s death

PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — One man is dead and another hospitalized after they were apparently overcome by fumes at a New Jersey condominium complex. Police responded to the complex in Washington Township Tuesday morning and found the two men unresponsive. The two men were working as groundskeepers at the complex, and police say they were likely overcome by fumes from a running lawn mower in a trailer. Responding officers performed CPR on the men, and they were both taken to the hospital. Police say one of the men, a 26-year-old from West New York, died at the hospital. The condition of the other man has not been released.

Woodland construction worker killed on East Marin Island project

East Marin Island, TX — A 39-year-old construction worker died after being crushed by a guesthouse’s retaining wall on East Marin Island, officials said Tuesday. Firefighters responded at 2:45 p.m. Monday after a report of a person trapped on the island. Shawn Frederick Moore, of Woodland (Yolo County), was working as part of a crew taking apart a structure when a portion of the wall collapsed and trapped him under debris, authorities said.

Officer killed after crashing ATV into tree in Southwest Miami-Dade

MIAM, FL – A Miami-Dade Police officer has died after he was involved in an all-terrain vehicle crash in Southwest Miami-Dade.According to officials, Miami-Dade Police Officer Jermaine Brown crashed into a tree along a canal near U.S. 1 and Southwest 211th Street, Wednesday afternoon. “Earlier today, one of our officers was operating an ATV vehicle,”
MDPD Director Juan Perez said. “We were handling some complaints that were received in one of the Citizen Advisory Committee meetings, dealing with some illegal activities along the canal bank. Nuisance type of activities, as well as some thefts.” As Brown was attempting an enforcement action that involved moving to a different location, he crashed his ATV into a tree.

Father of three, ‘cherished’ co-worker, killed in Waukesha County crash

MILWAUKEE, WI — Pictures of precious moments and memories are what Ross Johnson has to hold on to. Photographs that remind him of his father, Freddie Johnson. Freddie was tragically killed in an accident on I-94 and Elmhurst. Another driver lost control and crashed into Freddie’s work vehicle. Both lives were tragically lost.  “It sucks for the other family too. I know what they are going through and they are in my prayers and heart too,” said Ross.Freddie was an Aurora Health Care employee where he served as an ACL Laboratories courier for 19 years. The company said in a statement he was a wonderful colleague, a friend to all his co-workers and beloved at area hospitals.

Long Beach, NY — John Moschella, a Long Beach resident and retired FDNY captain, died on Dec. 8 from cancer related to his time doing rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero after Sept. 11. He was 52.

Man killed Monday in local construction accident

Marshalltwon, IA — An Ottumwa man was killed Monday as a result of construction accident at a Marshalltown Co. construction site. Christopher Charles Ehrenhard, 37, was killed as a result of a construction accident in Marshalltown, according to his obituary in the Ottumwa Courier. Marshalltown Deputy Fire Chief Chris Cross told the Times-Republican Thursday there was a construction-related fatality at the site Monday.  Ehrenhard was employed by Bridge City Construction of Ottumwa, subcontracting for Marshalltown Co.  A call to that company seeking comment was not returned at time of press.
