Nevertheless the accounts below gave you a taste of the preventable carnage occurring in workplaces across the country every day.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-985f27f elementor-widget elementor-widget-theme-post-title elementor-page-title elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"985f27f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"theme-post-title.default\">\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab ad-unit--is-rendered\">\n<h3 data-index=\"1\">Employee dies in fall from 19th floor of construction site in Downtown Atlanta<\/h3>\n<p class=\"story-text \" data-index=\"1\">Atlanta, GA \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.11alive.com\/article\/news\/local\/centennial-yards-statement-worker-death\/85-2ba585db-01ce-4dfb-9692-6b8c71ca35ca\">A man died Thursday after apparently falling from the 19th floor at a construction site<\/a> in downtown Atlanta, police said. Atlanta police responded to 327 Mitchell Street at the Centennial Yards development, where they found the man unresponsive. <strong>Lauinier Bonilla<\/strong>, a 20-year-old construction worker, died after falling from the 19th floor of a high-rise in Atlanta without wearing a safety harness. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No additional details have been shared about the circumstances surrounding the fall, but a spokesperson for the Department of Labor confirmed with 11Alive that an investigation by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, is underway.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"title-text\">Poultry Plant Sanitation Shift Worker Killed in Accident on Duty<\/h3>\n<p>Heavener, OK \u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodprocessing.com\/workforce\/worker-safety\/news\/55276542\/oklahoma-poultry-plant-sanitation-shift-worker-killed-in-accident-on-duty\"> An Oklahoma poultry plant sanitation shift worker was killed<\/a> in a plant accident\u00a0that occurred in the early morning hours of March 18, according to local news reports. The man,<strong> Levigildo Ramirez<\/strong>, was working the overnight shift at OK Foods in Heavener, Okla., when he fell through grating into an auger while working. Emergency first responders were called to the facility around 3 a.m., and Ramirez was pronounced dead on the scene at 3:24 a.m., the report noted. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating, and OK Foods had not responded to requests for comment at the time of this writing.<\/p>\n<h3>Shooting at West Philadelphia bar leaves security guard dead<\/h3>\n<p>Philadelphia, PA \u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/west-philadelphia-bar-shooting-security-guard-killed-two-injured\/\"> A security guard at a West Philly bar was killed<\/a> early Sunday in a shooting that left two other people wounded, officials said. According to police, the incident happened just after 1:30 a.m. outside Deja Vu Bar and Grill, located at the intersection of 53rd and Arch Streets. Police officials said a shooting happened after a security guard was involved in an altercation outside the bar. The man was shot multiple times.<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<h3>One person dead after incident at Hyundai Metaplant<\/h3>\n<p>Bryan County, GA \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtoc.com\/2025\/03\/21\/one-person-injured-after-incident-hyundai-megasite\/\">A plant worker died in a forklift accident<\/a> at the Hyundai battery joint venture meta site after a forklift apparently struck a worker. Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) has confirmed the fatality writing that &#8220;Around 4:45 p.m. today, an incident occurred at the battery joint venture property on the megasite. The initial indication is that a forklift struck a worker, resulting in fatal injuries to the male victim. The incident is under investigation.&#8221; Monday, Bryan County\u2019s Deputy Coroner identified the victim as 45-year-old <strong>Sunbok You<\/strong>. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has confirmed to WTOC they are investigating the incident. This death comes after a worker was injured in early March, putting him in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries accord to a Hyundai spokesperson. A WTOC investigative team uncovered in December that between April 2023 and July 2024, there were at least 53 injuries requiring emergency medical services on the site. 14 of those were described as \u201ctraumatic\u201d injuries in Bryan County EMS records. There was also a death on the megasite in 2023 when a worker fell 60 feet and died.<\/p>\n<h3>Unidentified Tree Trimmer died after falling from tree<\/h3>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-foo\" class=\"wyQnS _92a4z VXjXk aey9d\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"UfL7-\">Tiburon, CA \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thearknewspaper.com\/live\/tree-trimmer-killed-in-fall-at-tiburon-home\">A landscaper died last week after he fell from a tree<\/a> he was trimming at a Centro West Street home into a neighbor\u2019s backyard. <\/span>Tiburon police said they did not have any details on the worker\u2019s identity or employer, and the coroner\u2019s division of the Marin Sheriff\u2019s Office did not comment. The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, which is investigating the case under standard procedure for workplace fatalities, said the man fell about 60 feet and was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Logger pinned and killed by falling tree<\/h3>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Fort Ann, NY \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mynbc5.com\/article\/fatal-logging-accident-fort-ann\/64227566\">One person has died after being pinned under a tree<\/a> in Fort Ann, according to New York State Police. Investigators identified the victim as 76-year-old <strong>Leslie Saltsman<\/strong> of Fort Ann. Saltsman was located more than a half mile from the roadway in a wooded area under a downed tree and suffered severe crushing injuries, police said. Officers said life-saving measures were performed, but Saltsman was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing. However, police said the death is not being considered suspicious.<\/p>\n<h3 data-hook=\"rcv-block5\">Employee killed in a Manufacturing Accident<\/h3>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block5\">\n<p>Frazeysburg, OH <span class=\"UfL7-\">\u2014 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zanesvilletimesrecorder.com\/story\/news\/local\/2025\/03\/18\/one-person-killed-in-frazeysburg-industrial-incident-tuesday-morning\/82514263007\/\">An industrial accident early Tuesday morning has resulted in one fatality<\/a>. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. at DK Manufacturing, a factory that makes custom injection molding components primarily for the auto industry. The victim,<strong> John LeMaster<\/strong>, 46, died shortly after 5 a.m., explained Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz. Lemaster was a DK Manufacturing employee that lived in Corning. The accident remains under investigation, Lutz added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Man dies after being found unresponsive at St. Gabriel chemical plant<\/h3>\n<p>ST. GABRIEL, Louisiana \u2014 A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbrz.com\/news\/man-dies-after-being-found-unresponsive-at-st-gabriel-chemical-plant\/\">man died after being found unresponsive at a St. Gabriel chemical plant<\/a> Thursday morning. St. Gabriel Police said that emergency crews were dispatched to the Nutrien Nitrogen Plant around 8:28 a.m. to find the unresponsive man. He was brought to the hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead. The plant issued a statement confirming an employee died and that they are investigating the cause of his death. No foul play is suspected, but the St. Gabriel Police Department said his death was not caused by a medical condition. The man&#8217;s death is under investigation.<\/p>\n<h3>St. Tammany deputy struck, killed early Sunday by fleeing suspects, authorities say<\/h3>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Slidell, LA \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox8live.com\/2025\/03\/23\/st-tammany-deputy-struck-killed-early-sunday-by-fleeing-suspects-authorities-say\/\">A St. Tammany Parish Sheriff\u2019s Office deputy was killed on duty<\/a> early Sunday (March 23) when he was struck by a fleeing suspect\u2019s vehicle while trying to lay down a spike strip on a roadway, the agency said. The fallen deputy was identified by the agency as 37-year-old <strong>Sgt. Grant Candies<\/strong>, a nine-year veteran of the agency and former US Marine. Candies was a married father of two children, the STPSO said. His own father served in the St. Charles Parish Sheriff\u2019s Office for more than 30 years. A Luling native, the younger Candies was named St. Tammany\u2019s Deputy of the Year in 2023. The STPSO said the pursuit began on Brownswitch Road, when a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle, which instead \u201cfled at a high rate of speed.\u201d \u201cHe was going at least 85, 90 mph,\u201d one witness recalled. Sgt. Candies was laying down a spike strip on I-10 near the Oak Harbor exit to try to end the pursuit when he was struck and killed by the suspect\u2019s vehicle, the STPSO said.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"article-title\">Deputy killed on duty in five-vehicle crash<\/h3>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab ad-unit--is-rendered\">Buffalo, TX \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myhighplains.com\/news\/texas\/mont-co-deputy-killed-in-five-vehicle-crash-in-leon-county\/\">A crash involving a Montgomery County Sheriff\u2019s Office patrol vehicle in Leon County has left a 38-year-old deputy dead<\/a>. Sgt. Ruiz said the patrol vehicle, a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe, was being used to conduct an inmate transport. It was traveling southbound when it struck a 2009 Freightliner 18-wheeler which was also going south. During the crash, the front passenger of the Tahoe was ejected and landed in the northbound lanes. Just after the first crash a 2008 Ford F-150 going north struck the passenger who was ejected. The passenger who was ejected and struck has been identified as Montgomery County Sheriff\u2019s <strong>Deputy Charles Rivette<\/strong> of New Caney, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Sgt. Ruiz said the investigation into this crash will be ongoing and will be conducted by the Texas Highway Patrol with the assistance of the District Crash Reconstruction Team.<\/p>\n<h3>Minnesota Kwik Trip employee stabbed to death<\/h3>\n<p>Blue Earth, MN \u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisn.com\/article\/minnesota-kwik-trip-employee-stabbed-to-death-customer-arrested\/64224574\"> A Kwik Trip gas station employee died<\/a> after being stabbed early Tuesday morning . The victim was identified as<strong> Dennis Vosika<\/strong>, 34, from Mankato. Investigators said he was found unresponsive with a knife wound when police responded to the convenience store just after 3:00 a.m. Doctors pronounced Vosika dead at Mayo Clinic Health System. A motive for the stabbing has not been released. \u201cHonestly, I think Dennis was an angel sent to Earth from God,\u201d Ogren, Vosika\u2019s partner, commented. Vosika, who Ogren said loved and cared for everyone around him, had been battling kidney failure for 15 years.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Sheriff&#8217;s Deputy killed in traffic collision<\/h3>\n<p>San Bernardino County, CA \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fontanaheraldnews.com\/news\/deputy-killed-in-traffic-collision\/article_f99f9abe-b037-4edb-bad5-3f41944da45e.html\">A Sheriff\u2019s deputy died from injuries sustained in a March 17 traffic collision<\/a>.<strong> Deputy Hector Cuevas<\/strong>, 36, was killed while pursuing a suspect who had failed to yield in Victorville at 10:58 a.m. near El Evado and Seneca roads. According to the sheriff\u2019s department, deputies from the Victorville Station spotted the stolen vehicle near Mojave Drive and Amargosa Road. When they attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver, identified as 22-year-old Ryan Dwayne Turner of San Bernardino, led officers on a pursuit. During the chase, Cuevas was involved in a collision with another vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries. Turner faces charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and failure to yield causing death or serious injury, according to authorities. The Sheriff\u2019s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is handling the investigation and is searching into the cause of the crash. Cuevas had served with the San Bernardino County Sheriff&#8217;s Department for several years. He had previously worked for the Upland Police Department. Cuevas was described as \u201ca cop\u2019s cop\u201d and was a well-known community member. Cuevas is survived by his wife, two children, his parents and two siblings.<\/p>\n<h3>20-year-old EMT dead after dump-truck crash in King and Queen County<\/h3>\n<p>Kings and Queen County, VA \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wric.com\/king-and-queen-county\/ambulance-driver-dead-after-dump-truck-crash-in-king-and-queen-county\/\">An EMT was killed in a dump truck crash<\/a> that happened Thursday morning on Route 360 in King and Queen County. According to state police, a 2000 Peterbilt dump truck, driven by a 67-year-old man stopped in the median to wait on traffic, where about 40 inches of the truck were reportedly in the road of travel. Authorities said a private ambulance, driven by 20-year-old <strong>Jacob Bozeman<\/strong>, hit the rear corner panel of the driver\u2019s side of the dump truck and then overturned to the left and into the median. Bozeman died due to his injuries at the scene, according to officials. State police said he was wearing a seatbelt. Another EMT, who was a passenger in the ambulance and identified as a 34-year-old man from Newport News, suffered injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities said he was also wearing a seatbelt. According to state police, the ambulance was not on an emergency call and did not have any patients on board.<\/p>\n<h3>OSHA probing death at city steel plant<\/h3>\n<p>Dunkirk, PA &#8212; An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.observertoday.com\/news\/top-stories\/2025\/03\/osha-probing-death-at-city-steel-plant\/\">employee\u2019s death<\/a> at the Dunkirk Specialty Steel plant on Brigham Road this week is under investigation. A U.S. Labor Department spokesman on Thursday did confirm that \u201c(the Occupational Safety and Health Administration) is currently investigating this incident and has six months to complete its investigation. More information will be available after the investigation is complete.\u201d Dunkirk Fire Chief Nicholas Barter said the city department responded to the incident, which was classified as an industrial accident, at the plant around 5 p.m. Monday. Universal Stainless Steel headquarters in Bridgeville, Pa., did not return a phone call from the OBSERVER on Thursday afternoon. A call to the city plant was referred to the company attorney. It is the first death at the location since 1995 when a worker was caught in a piece of machinery.<\/p>\n<h3>Xcel Energy investigating death of employee at station east of Muleshoe<\/h3>\n<p>MULESHOE, Texas\u00a0 &#8211; Xcel Energy is working to figure out what caused the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2025\/03\/19\/xcel-energy-investigating-death-employee-station-east-muleshoe\/\">death of one of its employees<\/a> in Lamb County earlier this month. The utility company confirmed the employee\u2019s death to KCBD on Wednesday afternoon. It\u2019s not yet clear how the worker died. We know it happened at the Tolk Station east of Muleshoe on Mar. 6. The worker\u2019s name was not released. Xcel says no other employees were hurt.<\/p>\n<h3>Coroner IDs truck driver killed in Schuylkill County crash<\/h3>\n<p>RUSH TWP., Pa. &#8212; The Schuylkill County coroner has released the name of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfmz.com\/news\/area\/poconos-coal\/schuylkill-county\/coroner-ids-truck-driver-killed-in-schuylkill-county-crash\/article_bce66463-326d-4a56-9aa1-25d15b840998.html\">driver killed in a truck crash<\/a> on Friday. <strong>Timothy McAndrews,<\/strong> 77, of Northumberland County, died of blunt force trauma in the crash Friday morning in Rush Township, the coroner said. It happened just before noon in the 600 block of Route 54. A tractor-trailer hauling trash rolled while going around a curve and hit a dump truck in the oncoming lane, officials say.
