LONG BEACH, CA — A man was killed<\/a> and two others were injured Tuesday when a trench wall outside a newly built shelter building collapsed and trapped the men under the dirt. According to Long Beach Rescue Mission President Jeff Levine, three workers were installing a power conduit along the four-foot trench to run power to the mission\u2019s nearly finished expansion of Lydia House, its shelter for women and children in the 1400 block of Pacific Avenue. One worker had knelt down, and two others were standing close by, when the trench wall began to crumble. Officials say the workers tried to stop the collapse by holding up the trench wall but failed. MARSHALL COUNTY, AL — A construction worker is dead<\/a> after a wreck pulled him from the bucket truck he was working in, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. ALEA said that a construction worker, Albert Perezibarra<\/strong>, 22, of Georgia, was in an elevated bucket working on a cable wire on Feemster Gap Road when a pickup truck hit the wire in the road. The agency said Perezibarra was holding the wire when it was hit, causing him to be pulled from the elevated work bucket. He was critically injured at the scene and taken to Marshall Medical North Hospital for treatment. However, ALEA said that Perezibarra later died from his injuries.<\/p>\n

Beaumont police say Murphy was traveling north in the inside lane and collided with the median concrete barrier. It is believed Murphy then lost control of the dump truck and swerved to the outside lane and collided with a second concrete barrier, causing the dump truck to flip over. It then caught on fire.<\/p>\n

Woman asked tow truck driver to move stuck car, then fatally ran him over: police<\/h3>\n

ORANGE COUNTY, FL — A woman allegedly called a tow truck driver after her car became stuck in mud, then ran the man over and left him to die<\/a> once she could drive. According to a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime, 21-year-old Julia Blackwell was with a group of friends on May 16 when her pickup truck became stuck in a muddy ditch on the side of a highway. She contacted 59-year-old Ronald Bear<\/strong> to help her move the vehicle, per the complaint. Bear reportedly arrived with two relatives and began efforts to remove the pickup truck from the ditch. Blackwell’s friends also drove a black pickup truck to the scene, which waited nearby, the outlet reported. Bear’s relatives told police that he put a strap on Blackwell’s pickup truck and attached it to the black pickup truck, which pulled the vehicle out of the mud. Bear reportedly went to remove the strap, at which point Blackwell, who was sitting in the driver’s seat of the silver truck, hit the gas. The truck allegedly collided with Bear and knocked him to the ground. Blackwell then backed over Bear while he was still on the ground. She attempted to drive away but got stuck in more mud. Blackwell exited the vehicle with a passenger, who said, “You killed him,” according to another witness who was with Blackwell. Blackwell and her passenger reportedly exited the silver pickup and got into the black truck before driving away from the scene. Blackwell eventually agreed to speak to police days after the incident, during which she claimed that she didn’t realize she had hit someone and that she backed up because she thought someone was in front of her vehicle. Bear was pronounced dead shortly after the incident occurred. Blackwell was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash with death.<\/p>\n

DORCHESTER, MA — A veteran Boston firefighter died after falling<\/a> from a third-story window Saturday night while battling a three-alarm house fire at 18 Treadway Road in Dorchester, according to local officials. The Boston Fire Department responded to the blaze around 8:15 p.m., which quickly spread to all three floors and through the roof before being knocked down within 20 minutes. Robert “Bobby” T. Kilduff Jr.<\/strong>, a 53-year-old member of Rescue Company 2 and a 24-year veteran of the department, suffered severe injuries in the fall at approximately 8:50 p.m. and was pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center, as reported by the Boston Globe, WBUR, NBC10 Boston, and NBC 10 Rhode Island. Boston Fire Commissioner Rodney Marshall announced the line-of-duty death during an early Sunday morning press conference outside the hospital, noting that Kilduff was a third-generation firefighter and a U.S. Marine veteran. TAOS COUNTY, NM — New Mexico State Police are investigating a fatal vehicle crash<\/a> in Ranchos de Taos Friday night (May 22) that resulted in the death of Joseph Apodaca<\/strong>, an office sergeant with the Taos County Sheriff’s Office. He was 36 years old. A procession of Taos County first responders was escorting Apodaca’s remains back to Taos Saturday evening (May 23) from Albuquerque, where the deputy’s body was in the custody of the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator. Apodaca, who had been with the sheriff’s office since 2018, was on duty and operating his department-issued motorcycle at the time of the crash, which involved another on-duty sheriff’s deputy.<\/p>\n

A 911 caller found the 64-year-old unresponsive in the water, trapped under the mower, according to the Edgar County Coroner\u2019s Office. Police, paramedics and firefighters rushed to help, but Jay was declared at the scene. He was found in around three feet of water with the zero-turn mower.
