MARSEILLES, IL — A Sheridan man died Tuesday in a grain bin and auger accident<\/a>, according to the LaSalle County Coroner. Owen Floyd Severson<\/strong>, 66, was identified as the victim of the fatal accident. The night of July 7, the coroner was called out to the 2600 block of N. 2950th Road in Marseilles. A man was recovered from a grain bin by fire and rescue personnel and was pronounced dead. Initial findings of an autopsy show he died from traumatic injuries suffered in the accident. The investigation remains active by the LaSalle County Coroner\u2019s Office and the LaSalle County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Jehu Hester<\/strong> of Russellville was identified as the victim. County Coroner Scott Norwood said emergency crews were dispatched to a farm on County Road 136 after reports that someone was trapped in a chicken litter elevator. By the time first responders arrived, the incident had become a recovery operation, according to FOX54 News. Norwood said Hester worked as a chicken litter broker, purchasing poultry litter from farmers and selling it for use as fertilizer. According to WAAY 31, Hester had been missing since the previous evening after his truck was found still running but unattended.<\/p>\n

The Kansas Highway Patrol says that at 5:22 a.m. on Saturday, 53-year-old James Glover Jr.<\/strong> was driving a semi truck east on U54 in Pratt County when he crossed the center line for an unknown reason. Another semi truck driver was headed west and attempted to avoid Glover. Glover hit the side of the westbound semi truck. He died at the scene. MORENCI, AZ — A worker at an eastern Arizona copper mine died<\/a> Monday. The worker died after a \u201chaul truck accident\u201d at Freeport-McMoRan\u2019s Morenci mine, according to the company. \u201cOur thoughts and condolences are with the employee\u2019s family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time,\u201d company officials said in a statement. Newport EMS was dispatched to 21 Landfill Lane for an unconscious man who was reported to have fallen, and arrived on scene to find the injured Feerick, who was taken to North Country Hospital in Newport, where he was pronounced dead. Feerick, of Fairfax, was working as a subcontractor at the landfill. He was operating an aerial lift to remove a section of fencing when the lift tipped over down a small embankment, according to police. Feerick was not harnessed and was thrown from the platform when it struck the ground or just before. All evidence suggests the incident was accidental and it is not considered suspicious, police added.<\/p>\n

Norfolk Southern Conductor Killed After Being Struck by Train in East Chicago Rail Yard<\/h3>\n

CHICAGO, IL — A Norfolk Southern railroad conductor was killed<\/a> early Thursday morning after being struck by another train while working in an East Chicago rail yard, according to an East Chicago Police Department report. Police were dispatched at approximately 3:52 a.m. on July 9 to the area of Dickey Road and East 129th Place for a reported train-versus-pedestrian incident. When officers arrived, they were met by Norfolk Southern personnel, who directed them to a dirt path along the railroad tracks. Officers located a male, from Ohio, who was a Norfolk Southern conductor, lying face down on the tracks with multiple traumatic injuries. Officers immediately turned the conductor over and began CPR. Additional East Chicago officers, firefighters, and Superior Ambulance paramedics continued life-saving efforts for an extended period. Weeks later, on July 10 around 4:30 a.m., Reider died from his injuries while still in the hospital. The Malaga Fire Company says that Reider joined their team in 2018 when he was just 16 as a junior firefighter.<\/p>\n

SLOCUM, TX — An East Texas firefighter died Saturday after being hospitalized<\/a> earlier this week with a medical emergency while on duty. RITTMAN, OH — Multiple people were shot and killed<\/a> Sunday in Rittman, Ohio, including a police officer who was responding to a report of gunshots. NCSHP said that the Challenger hit the ambulance, causing it to overturn. The driver of the Dodge was allegedly speeding and under the influence of alcohol. At the time of the crash, an EMS worker was tending to a patient in the back of the ambulance. Deputies release name of truck driver killed in Central NY crash<\/h3>\n

SCIPIO, NY — The Cayuga County Sheriff\u2019s Office released the name of a truck driver who died in a crash<\/a> in Scipio on Thursday. The man was Dewite J. Curtis<\/strong>, 46, of Lisle, Undersheriff Stuart W. Peenstra, a sheriff\u2019s office spokesperson, said on Tuesday. Curtis was driving on Route 34B in a 1996 Freightliner carrying liquid manure around 8:30 a.m. when the truck went of the shoulder of the road, deputies said. The truck overturned when it came back onto the road, deputies said. Curtis was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash happened just south of Fleming-Scipio Townline Road, deputies said.<\/p>\n
