International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 said the worker was killed in an accident at the Cleveland-Cliffs plant in Burns Harbor, about 50 miles from Chicago near Lake Michigan. The accident happened on Thursday. Union officials identified the man who died as <strong>Jonathan Stepp<\/strong>, a young father who was operating a pot hauler when he died. A GoFundMe said Stepp, 28, leaves behind three young children. He was not an employee of Cleveland-Cliffs, but of Phoenix Services, a contractor that provides services at the Burns Harbor plant, according to a Cleveland-Cliffs spokesperson. The Cherokee County Coroner\u2019s Office said two workers were riding on the rear platform of a garbage truck around 1:50 p.m., as trash carts were being emptied. The truck was reportedly turning right from Hayes Toad onto Bonner Road when one worker fell and hit the pavement. The worker, 32-year-old <strong>John Derrick Dover<\/strong>, was brought to Spartanburg Medical Center where he died just before 3:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<h3>Ellisville man dies after workplace accident on Hardy Street, Hattiesburg police say<\/h3>\n<p>PINE BELT, MS &#8212; A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wdam.com\/2026\/08\/17\/worker-dies-after-workplace-accident-hardy-street\/\">worker is dead after a workplace accident<\/a> that happened at the construction site for Hattiesburg\u2019s incoming Chipotle. Hattiesburg Police Department responded to the accident around 10:46 a.m., when paramedics were already on scene providing aid. A worker was transported to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem identified the worker as 56-year-old <strong>Brice Walters<\/strong> of Ellsville.<\/p>\n<h3>Daviess County coroner names victim in fatal tractor rollover<\/h3>\n<p>DAVIESS COUNTY, KY &#8212; The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tristatehomepage.com\/news\/local-news\/daviess-county\/daviess-county-officials-release-tractor-fatal-name\/\">person killed in a tractor rollover<\/a> in Utica has been named. The Daviess County Coroner identified the deceased as 69-year-old <strong>Steven Mackey<\/strong>. The Daviess County Sheriff\u2019s Office says Mackey was driving his tractor in the 2600 block of McMahan Road when the tractor rolled down an embankment and overturned, crushing him.<\/p>\n<h3>Fatal Grain Bin Incident in Argos<\/h3>\n<p>ARGOS, IN &#8212; On Monday, August 10, 2026, at approximately 5:08 p.m., the Marshall County Coroner\u2019s Office was notified of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepilotnews.com\/news\/fatal-grain-bin-incident-in-argos\/article_efdfb00b-8a2e-4f38-b3fd-edb241ef6338.html\">death<\/a> at 14942 Maple Road, Argos, Indiana. An investigation found that the deceased, <strong>Jonathon Hayn<\/strong>, of Argos, Indiana, had been working inside a grain bin on the family farm when it appears he became overcome by smoke after the grain began burning. Family members and workers attempted to remove Hayn from the grain bin but were unable to fully rescue him. Marshall County Central Dispatch received a 911 call at approximately 4:13 p.m.<\/p>\n<h3>1 Construction Worker Killed, 2 Injured In Nesconset Crash<\/h3>\n<p>NESCONSET, NY &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/new-york\/smithtown\/1-construction-worker-killed-2-injured-nesconset-crash-police\">One construction worker was killed<\/a> and two others were injured after they were struck by a vehicle in Nesconset early Monday morning, Suffolk County police said. The three workers, all men, were struck at the intersection of Townline Road and Terry Road at about 6:43 a.m., police said. One worker was pronounced dead after being taken to Stony Brook University Hospital. A second worker suffered serious injuries, while the third suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to police. Records obtained by ABC 17 News, our affiliate in Columbia, Missouri, state that the fire department was called to Faurot Field at 9:05 a.m. and arrived within five minutes. University medics were on the scene providing care to Sooter. The incident report states that fire crews used specialized equipment to test the wiring and found it was still energized. The incident was classified as an electrocution.<\/p>\n<h3>Consumers Energy lineman dies on the job after being electrocuted<\/h3>\n<p>HENDERSON, MI &#8212; A Consumers Energy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilx.com\/2026\/08\/17\/consumers-energy-worker-dies-while-job\/\">lineman died while on the job<\/a> in Henderson, the company said Monday. According to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the 48-year-old worker was performing overhead electrical work on Aug. 13 when he was electrocuted. While crew members were on the roof, Alverez fell through it about 30 feet to the concrete floor below. Arriving crews learned that the man, estimated to be around 60 years old, fell from a barge into a confined area in a barge bay. The man was in cardiac arrest, Coughlin said. Authorities escorted the firefighter\u2019s body from Superior, across the Blatnik Bridge and south to the Twin Cities area Wednesday morning. Forest leaders said the death followed a medical emergency Tuesday in Ely but have not released what led to the firefighter\u2019s death. Authorities had not officially released the firefighter\u2019s name as of the broadcast. A fire crew based in Alaska posted on Facebook overnight, identifying the firefighter as <strong>Leslie Washington<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Truck driver killed in crash involving cow on I-81<\/h3>\n<p>WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wjhl.com\/news\/local\/truck-driver-killed-after-crash-involving-cow-on-i-81\/\">One person is dead after a crash<\/a> on Interstate 81 Tuesday morning that reportedly occurred because of a cow in the road. The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reports the crash occurred in the southbound lanes near mile marker 49.6 in Washington County. The crash reportedly occurred shortly after 1 a.m. A preliminary crash report states a tractor-trailer was in the right lane when it hit a cow that was standing on the interstate. After the vehicle hit the cow, it ran off the right side of the road and overturned before striking the tree line. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The THP identified the driver as <strong>Sorie Sahr Fofanah<\/strong>, 27, of California.<\/p>\n<h3>Logging truck driver killed in Wayne County crash<\/h3>\n<p>PALMYRA, NY &#8212; The <a href=\"http:\/\/fltimes.com\/news\/logging-truck-driver-killed-in-wayne-county-crash\/article_52c80a13-dd52-4783-9af3-b6f2ca7ec40e.html\">driver of a logging truck was killed<\/a> Aug. 10 after crashing on Route 21, State Police said. The crash happened at approximately 9 a.m. on Wednesday at S&amp;W Mini Storage on Highway 45 Alternate. Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Clay Flake confirmed the death of the truck driver. Authorities responded to the Mark Twain Elementary School at around 3:40 p.m. on August 10 after receiving a report of two people who had been shot inside the building, WLS reported. Two custodians, 63-year-old <strong>Theottis James Stigger<\/strong> and 48-year-old <strong>Amalia Bautista-Perez<\/strong>, were pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital. Both allegedly had gunshot wounds to the head. The Cook County Medical Examiner&#8217;s Office reportedly determined that Stigger died by suicide while Bautista-Perez died by homicide. Authorities did not disclose what led to the shooting.<\/p>\n<h3>Truck driver killed in accident at San Antonio Penske facility<\/h3>\n<p>SAN ANTONIO, TX &#8212; A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/us\/articles\/truck-driver-killed-accident-san-225112315.html\">truck driver from Mexico died<\/a> Tuesday after a truck slipped while he was unloading vehicles at a Penske facility on San Antonio&#8217;s East Side, according to the San Antonio Police Department. The incident happened at 9:30 a.m. at Penske Truck Rental and Leasing in the 3600 block of East Houston Street, near Interstate 10. The driver, identified as <strong>Luis Gerardo Posadas-Ruiz<\/strong>, 52, had hauled several new trucks to the facility &#8220;piggyback style,&#8221; with the vehicles stacked and connected for transport, according to a police incident report.<\/p>\n<h3>Semi-truck driver killed in fiery I-95 crash in Ormond Beach, troopers say<\/h3>\n<p>ORMOND BEACH, FL &#8212; A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickorlando.com\/traffic\/2026\/08\/13\/deadly-crash-closes-all-southbound-lanes-on-i-95-in-ormond-beach-troopers-say\/\">semi-truck driver is dead after a fiery crash<\/a> shut down all southbound lanes on Interstate 95 in Ormond Beach, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash happened near Mile Marker 276 in Volusia County. According to an FHP report, a 2022 International semi-truck with double trailers had been disabled in the outside southbound lane with its hazard lights on \u2014 the result of a prior crash with a deer. A second semi-truck, a 2023 International with double trailers, was traveling southbound in the outside lane when its driver was unable to slow down for the stopped truck ahead. The front of the moving semi struck the rear of the disabled truck. The impact caused the moving semi to engulf in flames. The driver of the moving semi was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the disabled truck was not injured and remained on scene, troopers said.<\/p>\n<h3>Florida man dies in semi crash near Brady<\/h3>\n<p>BRADY, NE &#8212; A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1011now.com\/2026\/08\/16\/florida-man-dies-semi-crash-near-brady\/\">Florida man is dead after an I-80 crash<\/a> west of Brady on Saturday. The Nebraska State Patrol was called to a semi fire on I-80 westbound at mile marker 198 at 9:20 p.m. Upon arrival, troopers found a crash that had occurred between two semis. According to NSP, the second semi had been parked on the shoulder and had begun merging back into the driving lane when it was struck by the other semi. The driver of the other semi, a man from Florida, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the merging semi was not injured.<\/p>\n<h3>Trucker killed in tractor-trailer crash on Florida Turnpike in Sumter County<\/h3>\n<p>SUMTER COUNTY, FL &#8212; A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.villages-news.com\/2026\/08\/16\/trucker-killed-in-tractor-trailer-crash-on-florida-turnpike-in-sumter-county\/#google_vignette\">40-year-old trucker was killed<\/a> late Sunday afternoon when his tractor-trailer crashed into several trees along the Florida Turnpike in Sumter County. The fatal crash occurred at about 5:10 p.m. near Milepost 306.5, just south of Wildwood. According to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, the Tampa man was driving the tractor-trailer southbound on the turnpike (State Road 91) when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons. The semi departed the roadway, entered the shoulder and struck a guardrail before colliding with several trees and coming to a final rest. The driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.<\/p>\n<h3>Semi-trucks collide on I-80, one driver killed<\/h3>\n<p>NORTH PLATTE, NE &#8212; A <a href=\"https:\/\/northplattebulletin.com\/semi-trucks-collide-on-i-80-one-driver-killed\/\">semi-truck driver was killed<\/a> Saturday night in a fiery wreck on I-80 about 20 miles east of North Platte. It was the fourth I-80 wreck in Lincoln County, and the second fatal crash, in three days. Nebraska State Patrol spokesman Cody Thomas said troopers were notified around 9:20 p.m. Saturday of the wreck and fires in the westbound lane. When they arrived, they found a semi-tractor-trailer fully engulfed in flames. Thomas said the accident occurred when a flat-bed trailer that was previously parked on the shoulder was starting to merge back into the driving lane of traffic. The pilots were identified as Chief Warrant Officer 2 <strong>Deontre T. Huey<\/strong> and Warrant Officer <strong>Seth L. Olmstead<\/strong>. Flowers<\/strong>, of Milton, DE, was driving a Mack tractor-trailer south on the Turnpike&#8217;s eastern spur when <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyvoice.com\/article\/trucker-killed-after-mack-slams-into-disabled-rig-on-nj-turnpike\/\">the crash<\/a> happened at milepost 112.4 in Secaucus at 9:01 a.m., New Jersey State Police Trooper II Christopher Postorino said. A Peterbilt dump-trailer had become disabled while traveling south and was parked on the right shoulder, according to the preliminary investigation. The Peterbilt driver got out of the vehicle and was standing outside it when Flowers&#8217; Mack left the roadway to the right, entered the shoulder, and struck the rear of the unoccupied Peterbilt, Postorino said. The Mack continued forward and struck the Peterbilt driver, police said. Flowers died in the crash, according to Postorino.
