Rockford Chief of Police Dan O&#8217;Shea said 30-year-old Officer Jamie Cox, who had been on the force for about a year,\u00a0 pulled over\u00a049-year-old Eddie Patterson as he drove a small pickup truck near the northwest suburb around 1 a.m. Sunday.\u00a0 When officers arrived, they discovered the pickup truck crashed into a tree two blocks north of the intersection where the stop occurred. Officer Cox was found with critical injuries at the scene of the crash. O&#8217;Shea said it appears Cox became &#8220;entangled&#8221; in the pickup truck after he and Patterson got into a &#8220;scuffle&#8221; during the traffic stop, and Officer Cox fired his weapon at some point.\u00a0Few other details are available at this time.\u00a0O&#8217;Shea said autopsies are pending for both Cox and Patterson.<\/p>\n<h3>Cardinal Employee Dies in Work Accident<\/h3>\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p>Durant, OK &#8212; An employee of Cardinal Glass Industries <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dwmmag.com\/report-cardinal-employee-dies-in-work-accident\/\">died in an accident at the company\u2019s Durant, Okla., float glass plant<\/a>, according to a local media report. The circumstances of his death are still under investigation, Barrows said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"article_content\"><span class=\"x_lg_header\">Fourth corrections employee dies following failed escape at Pasquotank Correctional Institution<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"article_content\">PASQUOTANK COUNTY, NC (WITN)- A fourth employee at Pasquotank Correctional Institution <a href=\"http:\/\/www.corrections.com\/news\/article\/47124-fourth-corrections-employee-dies-following-failed-escape-at-pasquotank-correctional-institution\">passed away from his injuries sustained three weeks ago in the failed prison escape<\/a>.\u00a0 <strong>Geoffrey Howe<\/strong>, 31, was a maintenance mechanic at the prison.\u00a0 He passed away Thursday at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital from injuries suffered during the Oct. 12 incident.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"h-1\">Third person dies from injuries sustained in attempted Pasquotank prison escape<\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"article_content\">PASQUOTANK COUNTY, NC &#8212;\u00a0<\/span>Correctional Officer <strong>Wendy Shannon<\/strong>, 49, d<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wral.com\/third-person-dies-from-injuries-sustained-in-escape-attempt-at-pasquotank-prison\/17072384\/\">ied Monday evening <\/a>at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Ramirez, an employee of the Cleveland Highway Texaco, was shot and killed late Thursday night while taking a break with a friend at a picnic table outside the business. A worker was found dead at the scene from blunt trauma, according to a release issued by Kenosha police. Witnesses reported that the man had been operating a piece of machinery when he may have become unconscious and fell from the machine, leading to his trauma and death. An investigation continues into the workplace accident that claimed the life a 62-year-old man who lived in South Haven. Hobart\u00a0police responded to Lakeshore Drive and Pennsylvania Avenue around noon\u00a0and spoke to a construction crew about the incident, according to a report from the Northwest Indiana Gazette. Crew members told police that the operator of an excavator had a piece of clothing caught on a lever that controlled the bucket on the excavator while he turned back to situate himself in the seat. They were riding in a van that was run over by the truck Tuesday afternoon. Seven trainees in the van were treated for minor injuries and released from an area hospital. Pimentel, an employee of Shaw Industries in Dalton, died on the scene. Bates says the man apparently was trying to get something out of the machine. The coroner says another worker threw him a piece of rope and he was caught in the machine when he bent over to get the rope.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Troopers ID truck driver killed on Giants Despair hill in Laurel Run<\/h3>\n<p>LAUREL RUN. PA \u2014 A Philadelphia man is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesleader.com\/news\/680943\/truck-driver-killed-in-morning-rollover-at-giants-despair-hill-in-laurel-run\">dead after a tractor-trailer rolled<\/a> over while descending the steep Giants Despair hill in Laurel Run on Wednesday morning. State Police identified the driver as <strong>Anthony W. Williams<\/strong>, 54.\u00a0The Northampton Street rollover occurred sometime around 6:17 a.m., troopers say. The truck was pulling a flatbed trailer with an unidentified container on it at the time. The Montgomery County Coroner&#8217;s Office later identified him as 54-year-old<strong> Mark French<\/strong>, of Dayton.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Mowing crew member Mitchell Williams, 18, died from hyperthermia<\/h3>\n<p>Massillon, OH &#8212; An abnormally<a href=\"http:\/\/www.indeonline.com\/news\/20171102\/mowing-crew-member-mitchell-williams-18-died-from-hyperthermia\"> high body temperature killed an 18-year-old Massillon area man<\/a> who died June 15 after working on a mowing crew, according to Tuscarawas County Coroner Dr. Jeff Cameron. Cameron\u2019s office released on Thursday a report saying that hyperthermia was the primary cause of <strong>Mitchell Williams<\/strong>\u2019 death. Williams was on his first day on the job with Fimple\u2019s Lawn Care of Massillon when he was found unconscious by the owner and an employee of the landscaping company. He was pronounced dead at at 4:57 p.m. at the Ohio Northern University Metzger Nature Center, a 70-acre site about 4 miles south of Ragersville. Williams had not mowed at the site at 5716 King Road SW in Bucks Township, although he had worked with the crew earlier in the day.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Ottawa Man Killed After Fall at Newark Business<\/h3>\n<p>Newark, IL &#8212; A 25 year-old Ottawa man was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wspynews.com\/news\/local\/ottawa-man-killed-after-fall-at-newark-business\/article_c9b46642-bef9-11e7-9386-57e1e88c5183.html\">killed on Tuesday after an apparent fall<\/a> at a business in unincorporated Newark. The Kendall County Sheriff&#8217;s Office says 25 year-old <strong>Wayne Wackerlin<\/strong> of Ottawa suffered injuries sustained in a fall and was pronounced dead at the business in the 9000 block of Helmar Rd., shortly after 5:23 p.m. According to dispatch logs, the location emergency crews were called to was FS Grain or, &#8220;Grainco. Kendall County Sheriff&#8217;s Office officials confirmed Wackerlin fell from a ladder while performing work at the business.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Police search for 2 women after employee killed during robbery at O&#8217;Reilly Auto Parts in Detroit<\/h3>\n<p>Detroit, MI &#8212; Police are searching for two women in connection with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickondetroit.com\/news\/police-investigate-homicide-at-oreilly-auto-parts-store-in-northwest-detroit\">fatal shooting of an employee<\/a> at an auto parts store in Detroit. The homicide investigation is underway\u00a0at the\u00a0O&#8217;Reilly Auto Parts store\u00a0on Schaefer Highway in northwest Detroit, police said. Police said two young women walked into the store and walked around before going behind the counter. Surveillance video\u00a0shows them taking the money and running out. As they were leaving, one of the women shot the 75-year-old manager in the head. He died from the gunshot wound.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"articleHeadline\" class=\"p-name\">Birmingham city employee gunned down while mowing grass in Wylam<\/h3>\n<p>Birmingham, AL &#8212; A Birmingham Public Works employee was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.al.com\/news\/birmingham\/index.ssf\/2017\/11\/birmingham_city_employee_gunne.html\">shot to death<\/a> this morning while mowing grass in the city&#8217;s Wylam neighborhood.\u00a0 The shooting happened around 10:30 a.m. on 4114 8th Avenue Wylam, Birmingham police spokesman Sean Edwards said. Birmingham police on Wednesday night identified the slain city worker as 51-year-old <strong>Grady Isam Jenkins<\/strong>, known by many of his friends as &#8220;Shady Grady.&#8221;\u00a0 The victim was found deceased, sitting on his city-issued lawn mover. Edwards said the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, but investigators have not released the make or model\u00a0of car. The victim, identified as 62-year-old<strong>\u00a0Leo Fournier<\/strong> of Montgomery, was pronounced dead at Jackson Hospital. Fournier and two other men were hit on Atlanta Highway near Dalraida Road\u00a0around 11:30 a.m. The other two victims are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. A Buick LaSabre was traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of\u00a0Atlanta Highway when it left the roadway and hit the men, police say. The driver of the Buick was taken into custody and charges are pending, police say. According to ALDOT, Fournier was an engineering assistant and had worked for ALDOT for about eight years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Worker killed at construction site of new Bucks arena<\/h3>\n<p>MILWAUKEE, WI &#8211; An electrician was killed after an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbc26.com\/news\/worker-killed-at-construction-site-of-new-bucks-arena\">accident at the construction site <\/a>of the new Milwaukee Bucks arena Saturday. According to a new release from the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office, a 57-year-old Menomonee Falls man was working at the site on 4th Street and fell off an eight-foot ladder on last Wednesday around 1 p.m. He suffered traumatic injuries and was complaining of chest pains.\u00a0 He was taken to Froedtert Hospital and died on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n<h3>DeKalb Firefighter Dies In Traffic Accident<\/h3>\n<p>DECATUR, GA \u2014 A paramedic with the DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department <a href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/georgia\/decatur\/dekalb-firefighter-dies-traffic-accident\">died Friday following a traffic accident<\/a> in Meriwether County, the department announced Sunday. <strong>Senior Firefighter Brannon &#8220;BC&#8221; Davis<\/strong> succumbed to his injuries sustained in the Friday morning accident, the DeKalb fire department announced in an Instagram post.
