When you’re working outdoors, it’s important to know what the weather is. Several years ago, OSHA produced a very useful “Heat App<\/a>”<\/p>\n

The App allows workers and supervisors to calculate the\u00a0heat index<\/strong>\u00a0for their worksite, and, based on the heat index, displays a\u00a0risk level<\/strong>\u00a0to outdoor workers. Then, with a simple “click,” you can get reminders about the\u00a0protective measures<\/strong>\u00a0that should be taken at that risk level to protect workers from heat-related illness-reminders about drinking enough fluids, scheduling rest breaks, planning for and knowing what to do in an emergency, adjusting work operations, gradually building up the workload for new workers, training on heat illness signs and symptoms, and monitoring each other for signs and symptoms of heat-related illness.<\/p>\n

The Heat App was not cheap to produce or maintain, but has undoubtedly saved lives.<\/p>\n

But we here at Confined Space are always on the lookout for ways to provide vital information to workers while minimizing the use of taxpayer dollars. So we were pleased to see on Twitter this new “Weather Stone,” an inexpensive tool that lets you know what the current weather conditions are.\u00a0 And the batteries never run out.
