The Pacific Gas and Electric employee was fatally injured in a vehicle-related accident Saturday on the western edge of the Carr Fire in Shasta County, said utility spokeswoman Melissa Subbotin. <strong>Jairus Ayeta,<\/strong> who was in his 20s, worked as an apprentice lineman and was part of a PG&amp;E crew working in \u201cdangerous terrain\u201d to restore power, she said. Ayeta is the seventh person to die in the immense blaze that has been burning for two weeks near Redding, where armies of firefighters and fleets of aircraft continue battling the flames about 100 miles (160 kilometers) south of the Oregon state line. Two firefighters and four residents, including two children, were also killed.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Worker killed in Englewood while building pool deck<\/h3>\n<div class=\"dateline\">CHICAGO, IL &#8212; Two workers building a pool deck in Chicago&#8217;s Englewood neighborhood were <a href=\"http:\/\/abc7chicago.com\/worker-killed-in-englewood-while-building-pool-deck\/3885470\/\">shot Saturday morning<\/a> while taking their lunch break.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Frank Warren,<\/strong> 61, died of his injuries.\u00a0 No one was in custody in the shooting, which occurred in the 6800-block of South Wood just before noon.\u00a0 Police said the men were unintended victims of an exchange of gunfire between rival gang members.\u00a0A witness said the men were eating their lunch on the grass. The Madison County Sheriff&#8217;s crash team responded to a call around 8 a.m. on a bridge on County Road 600 West just south of County Road 200 North, that an SUV struck two men working on a bridge crossing the White River, according to Madison County Sheriff Scott Mellinger. <strong>David A Kirk<\/strong>, 58, Gwynneville, Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene. Brandon Hanson, 39, Gwynneville, was lifelined to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis with serious pelvic and leg injuries. Both men work for AK Shannon Excavating Company and were contracted by Madison County to perform bridge work on the White River bridge.<\/p>\n<h3>Worker Commits Suicide on the Job<\/h3>\n<p>Clarkston, WA &#8212; <strong>Ray Spencer<\/strong> was installing siding at 730 13th Street, Clarkston, WA. The owner of the company departed and later returned finding Spencer hanging in a detached garage by an extension cord. Emergency medical technicians were called and attempted to revive the employee.\u00a0Asotin County Corner declared the death to be\u00a0 suicide, asphyxiation by hanging. Teter said in a press release.\u00a0<span class=\"quotations\">\u201cA tractor trailer was traveling east on U.S. 33, going down a steep grade, in a sharp lefthand curve, when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to exit the roadway edge, overturning and crashing down over a steep mountain.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"entry-title\">Granite City man killed in construction accident at Menard\u00a0prison<\/h3>\n<p>CHESTER, Ill. \u2013 The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating a <a href=\"https:\/\/fox2now.com\/2018\/08\/03\/granite-city-man-killed-in-construction-accident-at-menard-prison\/\">construction accident that claimed a Granite City\u2019s man life<\/a> Thursday. The accident occurred at the Menard Correctional Center. The exact circumstances surrounding the accident were not disclosed, but we do know that 55-year-old <strong>Ronald Pointer<\/strong> was killed. No other injuries at the prison were reported. The Chester, Illinois and Perryville, Missouri fire departments rushed to the prison following the accident. Pointer was a contractor for Merlin Stelzer Services and had 30 years of experience.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Police release name of man killed in Columbus plant accident<\/h3>\n<p>COLUMBUS, Neb. \u2014 Authorities have released the name of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omaha.com\/news\/public-safety\/police-release-name-of-man-killed-in-columbus-plant-accident\/article_cb896b67-c083-5234-8d44-019728c30773.html\">employee killed in an accident at a Columbus manufacturing plant<\/a>. First responders were sent Tuesday morning to the Nebraska Precast plant\u00a0to help someone pinned under a concrete form. Four other workers were taken to a hospital. One worker was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have identified him as 61-year-old <strong>Juvenal Aguilar<\/strong>, who lived in Columbus.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Employee dies in industrial accident at North 40 Outfitters store<\/h3>\n<p>COLVILLE, Wash. &#8211; A 63-year-old retail worker in Colville was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spokesman.com\/stories\/2018\/aug\/02\/colville-retail-worker-killed-thursday-morning-by-\/\">killed Thursday when a shelving unit fell on top of him<\/a>. Stevens County Coroner Lorrie Sampson said she was called to North 40 Outfitters on Main Street on the south side of the city at about 7:45 a.m. on a report of an accidental death. She identified the deceased as <strong>Randy Rowland<\/strong>. An autopsy has been scheduled. \u201cAll we know is that there was a very large shelving unit that toppled over and, kind of in a domino effect, took out another shelving unit,\u201d Sampson said. \u201cBoth shelving units combined and came down on this man. They\u2019re very heavy.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Demo Worker Dies From Oceanfront Building Collapse<\/h3>\n<p>MIAMI BEACH, FL \u2014 A demolition worker <a href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/florida\/miamibeach\/worker-dies-injuries-oceanfront-building-collapse\">struck by flying debris<\/a> in the July 23 collapse of a former Miami Beach oceanfront condominium, has died from his injuries, according to Miami Beach police. Forty-two-year-old <strong>Samuel Landis<\/strong> was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition following the building collapse. He died Friday afternoon. &#8220;The investigation remains active and open,&#8221; Ernesto Rodriguez of the Miami Beach Police Department told Patch. &#8220;As such, no additional information is currently available.&#8221;\u00a0 The former oceanfront Marlborough House condominium building collapsed when a planned demolition went horribly wrong. Witnesses described hearing a thunderous crash as the high-rise building came tumbling down like a house of cards. The building was located at 5775 Collins Avenue. &#8220;Obviously during that demolition something went terribly wrong,&#8221; Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber told reporters at the time.<\/p>\n<div class=\"asset-masthead \">\n<header class=\"asset-header\">\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Police ID dump truck driver killed in Lake Geneva accident<\/h3>\n<p>LAKE GENEVA, WI <strong>&#8212;\u00a0<\/strong>Lake Geneva police Friday identified the Mukwonago dump truck driver who was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gazettextra.com\/news\/local\/police-id-dump-truck-driver-killed-in-lake-geneva-accident\/article_26644f43-b5b9-5bd0-9a14-24804bf859a2.html\">killed in an accident<\/a> Thursday<strong>. Todd Klauser<\/strong>, 58, was driving a truck owned by Sobczyk Trucking of Big Bend, police Lt. Ed Gritzner said in a news release.\u00a0At about 8:39 a.m. Thursday, police responded to an accident involving the dump truck at the ramp of westbound Highway 50\/southbound Highway 120 and eastbound Highway 12. Klauser died at the scene, police said Thursday. The dump truck sustained severe damage. Gritzner said in an email Saturday, &#8220;The dump truck exited onto the off ramp, left the roadway and rolled.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Woman killed in accident at Ventra<\/h3>\n<p>CADILLAC, MI \u2014 A 61-year-old woman was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cadillacnews.com\/news\/woman-killed-in-accident-at-ventra\/article_db4dc739-6dd2-5273-992c-39a12d87094f.html\">killed Monday at the Ventra factory<\/a> in Evart. The assembly worker was walking from the work area to the break area when a steel water pipe fell on her head, according to publicly available information from the Michigan Occupational Health and Safety Administration. Perez was unresponsive when emergency crews arrived at the scene. OSHA spokeswoman Rhonda Burke said the agency\u2019s preliminary information indicated the man fell while employed by a company that was handling demolition work at the site.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Ohio truck driver killed in Interstate 80 crash<\/h3>\n<div class=\"meta\">\n<p>EAST CHILLISQUAQUE TOWNSHIP, PA \u2014 An Ohio truck driver was killed when his truck jumped a concrete bridge rail Wednesday afternon on Interstate 80, state police reported. <strong>Andy Rajubettan,<\/strong> 50, of Westlake, Ohio, was traveling west when the 2008 Volvo rig left the road, struck a guiderail on the north side of the road and jumped over a concrete bridge rail.\u00a0 The truck started to spin clockwise and continued in a westerly direction, police said. The truck landed below the bridge next to Mexico Road and facing east. The trailer continued west striking a guard trail while ripping off the tandem axle and coming to rest over an embankment facing east, police said.\u00a0Rajubettan is the 20th driver killed on Valley roads this year and the second along Interstate 80 in the Valley<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Everett Fire Chief: First woman in department dies from occupational cancer<\/h3>\n<p>Everett, MA &#8212; Everett lost their only active duty female firefighter to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/news\/local_coverage\/2018\/08\/everett_fire_chief_first_woman_in_department_dies_from_occupational\">occupational cancer<\/a> yesterday, the department\u2019s chief said. <strong>Susan Pipitone<\/strong>, 56, of Haverhill battled the disease for over a year after serving on the fire department since 1993. &#8220;She was fighting the good fight, she\u2019s a strong woman,\u201d Everett fire Chief Anthony Carli told the Herald yesterday. \u201cIt\u2019s a sad day.\u201d The first woman to work as a firefighter in the department\u2019s history, Pipitone was there even before Carli joined.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Man killed when truck falls on him at salvage yard<\/h3>\n<p>CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga.\u00a0&#8211; Clayton County police are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsbtv.com\/news\/local\/clayton-county\/man-killed-after-truck-falls-on-top-of-him-at-salvage-yard\/802682055\">calling it a freak accident<\/a> after a pickup truck landed on top of a salvage yard worker. The worker died at the scene in Ellenwood. Police told\u00a0Channel 2\u2019s\u00a0Audrey Washington\u00a0that <strong>Michael Hilley<\/strong>, 31, was pulling a part from underneath the pickup truck when something went wrong and the truck landed on top of him.\u00a0 Investigator said Hilley was removing a part from the truck, which was being held up by a forklift, when the truck fell directly on top of him. Hilley was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<h3>Construction Worker Falls to His Death Off Roof of Baltimore Self-Storage Building<\/h3>\n<p>Baltimore, MD &#8212; 19-year-old construction worker<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insideselfstorage.com\/disaster\/construction-worker-falls-his-death-roof-baltimore-self-storage-building\"> fell to his death<\/a> last Thursday while working on the roof of a CubeSmart self-storage facility in Baltimore. <strong>Cesar Ismael Villalobos Lima<\/strong> tried to use his foot to stop a large cart from rolling off the roof, but the piece of equipment pushed him over the edge, according to police.\u00a0The police received the call at 6:55 a.m. Lima worked for Bel Air Foam &amp; Roofing Inc. It\u2019s not clear from the report what work was being performed atop the six-story structure at 211 E. Pleasant St., though Bel Air specializes in urethane foam insulation and roof installations, according to the company website.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"article-story__headline grid__scroll-hook\" data-scroll-hook-name=\"article-story__headline\">Lawn worker killed trying to break up fight between mom and son, Cedar Hill police say<\/h3>\n<p>Cedar Hill, TX &#8212; Police say a man hired to do yard work was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/crime\/lawn-worker-killed-trying-to-break-up-fight-between-mom-and-son-cedar-hill-police-say\/287-578941012\">shot and killed when he attempted to break up a fight<\/a> between a mother and her son in Cedar Hill early Sunday night. Colin Chenault. &#8220;The victim was trying to de-escalate and intervene.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Cana man killed in tree-cutting accident<\/h3>\n<p class=\"entry-title\">Pinnacle, NC &#8212; A Cana, Virginia, man was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtairynews.com\/news\/63824\/cana-man-killed-in-tree-cutting-accident\">killed on the job Thursday while cutting trees<\/a> in Pinnacle. Stokes County Emergency Services Director Brandon Gentry said <strong>Lefty Michael Ogle<\/strong>, 60, of Cana, was killed in the incident. \u201cA limb had fallen and hit the gentleman on the head,\u201d said Gentry, \u201cand he suffered a fatal injury from it.\u201d The call came in at 9:52 a.m. Thursday, and EMS and Double Creek Fire Department were dispatched to call, which identified a head trauma, Gentry said. Ogle was transported by Air Care to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Ogle\u2019s sister, Sherry Holt, said on Monday that Ogle died later that evening at approximately 7:30 p.m. \u201cLefty was on the ground and his partner was in the bucket. Lefty had moved from the safe zone,\u201d said Holt. \u201cHis partner hollered, but they were both wearing earplugs. He had his hard hat on, but it (the tree limb) crushed his brain.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Las Vegas corrections officer died after \u2018incident\u2019 with inmate, city says<\/h3>\n<p>Las Vegas, NV &#8212; <strong>Kyle Eng\u2019s<\/strong> dream was to be a police officer. But on July 19, about a month after officially starting a second career in law enforcement as a Las Vegas corrections officer, Eng <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/local\/local-las-vegas\/las-vegas-corrections-officer-died-after-incident-with-inmate-city-says\/\">died after a fight with an inmate<\/a> at the city jail, police said Monday. According to a Facebook post from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Eng, 51, was found unconscious at the Las Vegas jail on July 19 shortly after he was \u201cinvolved in a fight with an inmate.\u201d He was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<h3>Crane Worker Killed<\/h3>\n<p>Montezuma, IA &#8212; An investigation is under way <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kmaland.com\/news\/regional\/iowa-news-headlines-monday-july\/article_157ed218-93e5-11e8-994b-f783d162ed66.html\">after a crane worker was kille<\/a>d on a wind farm in Poweshiek County. Blattner Energy confirmed that an accident Saturday claimed the life of a crane operator at a construction site. Blattner is building the wind turbines for MidAmerican Energy. The company is cooperating with local authorities and OSHA in the investigation.
