Officers responded at 2:17 p.m. to the incident at Wilkins Rebuilders Supply, 171 E. 12th St., according to Chicago Heights police and the Cook County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office.\u00a0When they arrived, officers learned that an employee driving a front end loader started moving the bus without realizing that 18-year-old <strong>Arlen J. Bradley<\/strong> was working underneath it, police said. The loader\u2019s operator then moved the bus forward, causing the rear wheels to run Bradley over.<\/p>\n<div class=\"detailTopWrap\">\n<div class=\"detailHeader\">\n<h3 class=\"detailHeadline\">Sanitation worker dies working at Arkansas school<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>CALICO ROCK, Ark.\u2014A sanitation worker has died while working at a northern Arkansas elementary school. The Baxter Bulletin reports that 48-year-old <strong>Steve Allen<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.texarkanagazette.com\/news\/arkansas\/story\/2018\/aug\/25\/sanitation-worker-dies-working-arkansas-school\/740378\/\">died Wednesday after a dumpster fell on him<\/a> as he emptied it into his garbage truck. St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the deceased man as <strong>Kenneth J. Woltering<\/strong>, of Carlyle.<\/p>\n<h3>CONSTRUCTION WORKER DIES AT HEIGHTS SCHOOL<\/h3>\n<div class=\"itemIntroText\">\n<p>Potomac, MD &#8212; A construction worker d<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesentinel.com\/mont\/news\/local\/item\/7306-construction-worker-dies-at-heights-school\">ied after an accident<\/a> at the Heights School in Potomac on Thursday. Montgomery County Police have identified<strong> John Thomas Moran Jr.<\/strong>, 27, from North East, Md., as the construction worker who died while working on a construction project for the school. Fire and rescue services responded to a call at the Heights School on Seven Locks Road at around 8:43 a.m. Thursday for a report of a construction accident. According to police, the construction crew had been working on moving a portable building outside the school, when the moving building struck Morgan, who died from his injuries at the scene.<\/p>\n<div class=\"subscriber-preview\">\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Truck driver killed in Franklin County crash<\/h3>\n<p>FRANKLIN COUNTY, MO<strong>\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0<\/strong>A man was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/news\/local\/crime-and-courts\/truck-driver-killed-in-franklin-county-crash\/article_97fe9666-cfd9-569b-9269-0b46891cfc35.html\">killed Friday morning when his truck went off a highway<\/a> here and crashed into a barn and house. <strong>Michael V. Ley<\/strong>, 57, of Washington, Mo., was southbound on Highway 185 about 10:25 a.m. when his truck traveled off the right side of the roadway south of Liberty School Road, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol crash report. Ley&#8217;s 1990 Freightliner FL70 truck skidded and he pulled it back onto the highway, but the truck went off the left side of the roadway. The truck then struck a barn before it crashed into a house, police said.\u00a0 Ley was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been wearing a seat belt.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"headline entry-title\">Man killed in industrial accident<\/h3>\n<p>Beaumont, TX &#8212; A man has died after being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beaumontenterprise.com\/news\/article\/LCSO-Man-killed-in-industrial-accident-13180036.php\">struck in the head with logs<\/a> in an industrial accident Wednesday, according to information from the Liberty County Sheriff&#8217;s Office. At approximately 12 p.m. officials responded to a call about a man who was hit in the back of the head at South Texas Logging &amp; Transport Company, LCSO said. <strong>Matthew Aaron Seller<\/strong>s, 33, is believed to have been in the blind spot of the loading vehicle carrying logs when he was struck.<\/p>\n<h3>Victim identified in fatal accident at Robeson Township quarry<\/h3>\n<p>Boyertown, PA &#8212; A Boyertown-area man was<a href=\"http:\/\/www.readingeagle.com\/news\/article\/coroner-called-to-robeson-township-business-082318\"> killed in an industrial accident<\/a> at a Robeson Township quarry, authorities said Thursday morning.\u00a0<strong>Brent Cosner<\/strong>, 29, of Colebrookdale Township was pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m. at his workplace at Birdsboro Materials, 1267 Haycreek Rd., by Berks County Deputy Coroner Kurt E. Katzenmoyer. Officials said Cosner got caught in a conveyor belt at the quarry.<\/p>\n<h3>NY officer dies of 9\/11-related illness<\/h3>\n<p>NEW ROCHELLE, NY\u00a0\u2014\u00a0A 20-year veteran officer of the New Rochelle Police Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.policeone.com\/police-heroes\/articles\/479540006-NY-officer-dies-of-9-11-related-illness\/\">died Aug. 16 from cancer<\/a> developed from assisting search and rescue efforts after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Officer <strong>Katheleen O\u2019Connor-Funigiello<\/strong> is survived by her husband, three step-children and five siblings,\u00a0ODMP reports. Seventy-two officers from eight local, state and federal agencies were killed on Sept. 11, 2001 when al Qaeda terrorists crashed four hijacked planes into the World Trade Center towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Heavy air contamination resulting from the attacks at Ground Zero led to the illness and deaths of several first responders in the years following the incident.<\/p>\n<div class=\"itemIntroText\">\n<h3 class=\"\">Moving company employee killed by tractor-trailer<\/h3>\n<p><span id=\"WNStoryDateline\">GREENBURGH, NY &#8211;\u00a0<\/span>A moving company employee is dead after being pinned under a tractor-trailer in the town of Greenburgh. Police say the accident happened on Spencer Court near Shaw Lane on Wednesday morning. The victim is a 36-year-old man who worked for the &#8220;Reliable Van and Storage&#8221; company in New Jersey.\u00a0Police say the driver of the moving truck accidentally backed up while the victim was trying to fix the wheels.<\/p>\n<h3>Pa. construction worker killed by drunken hit-and-run drive<\/h3>\n<p class=\"News-body-text\">HARBORCREEK, PA\u00a0 \u2013 Authorities say a man was driving drunk when he <a href=\"https:\/\/triblive.com\/state\/pennsylvania\/13999160-74\/authorities-pa-construction-worker-killed-by-drunken-hit-and-run-driver\">struck and killed a Wisconsin woman<\/a> who was working at a construction site in western Pennsylvania. <strong>Jacqueline Ohly<\/strong> was helping to install cable guide rails along Interstate 90 in Harborcreek when she was struck around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. The 26-year-old Stevens Point resident was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Yorktown man dies after industrial accident in Hampton<\/h3>\n<p>HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) &#8212; A Yorktown man <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wavy.com\/news\/local-news\/hampton\/yorktown-man-dies-after-industrial-accident-in-hampton\/1391506511\">died after a work-related accident<\/a> in Hampton on Wednesday.\u00a0 According to the Hampton Police Division, the accident happened just before 10:40 a.m. in the 2500 block of McMenamin Street.\u00a0 Officers found the 60-year-old at the scene suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"newsStoryTitle\">Deliveryman dies after fall in Barre<\/h3>\n<p><span id=\"dateline\">BARRE, Vt. &#8212;\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0Police say a deliveryman died <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wcax.com\/content\/news\/Delivery-man-dies-in-Barre-following-fall-491541701.html\">after falling down a staircase<\/a> Wednesday afternoon in Barre.It happened around 2:45 at Simply Subs restaurant on Main Street. Police say<strong> Louis Mason<\/strong>, 63, was making a delivery for the Capital Candy company when he apparently fell down a basement flight of stairs in the back of the restaurant. Authorities say the Montpelier man was found unresponsive at the bottom of the stairs with unknown injuries. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say his death appears to be an accident. The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports State Police say in a news release that 21-year-old\u00a0West Virginia\u00a0Parkways Authority employee <strong>Richard Lambert<\/strong> died Saturday at a hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. State Police said a tractor-trailer hit two Parkways Authority vehicles on the side of the road and the three employees standing next to them Thursday along Interstate 77 in Mercer County. Also killed was 32-year-old Parkways employee <strong>Nathan Thompson<\/strong>. Both Thompson and Lambert were from the Kegley area. Nineteen-year-old Ethan Kestner of the Princeton area was injured.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"blox-story-frame\" class=\" hnews hentry item article-pad-rail\">\n<div id=\"blox-story-text\" class=\"entry-content\">\n<div id=\"paging_container\" class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<div>\n<h3>Workplace Accident Resulted in Death of Frostproof Man<\/h3>\n<p>Frostproof, FL &#8212; On Monday, August 20, 2018 at 9:22 a.m., deputies from the Polk County Sheriff\u2019s Office, along with Frostproof Fire and Polk EMS, responded to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyridge.com\/en\/2018\/08\/22\/workplace-accident-resulted-in-death-of-frostproof-man\/\">fatal workplace accident<\/a> at David Keen\u2019s Auto Repair at 101 Scenic Highway North, in Frostproof. 53-year-old Brian Jones, of 394 6<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Street West, Frostproof, was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics. According to the preliminary investigation, a truck which was being worked on by Jones, began to roll off of a mechanical lift. Jones tried to stop the truck from rolling, and it fell on top of him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Michael McDonald, retired FDNY from Farmingville who worked at Ground Zero, dies<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"blox-story-text\" class=\"entry-content\">\n<div id=\"paging_container\" class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>New York, NY &#8212; On Sept. 11, 2001, FDNY firefighter <strong>Michael McDonald<\/strong> was watching TV from his Farmingville home <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsday.com\/long-island\/obituaries\/fdny-michael-mcdonald-1.20626039\">as the first plane struck the World Trade Center<\/a>. He left home that day, heading\u00a0straight to Ground Zero via\u00a0the Long Island Expressway, which was closed to all traffic except emergency responders. \u201cHe was there when the second tower fell,\u201d Diana McDonald said. \u201cHe worked long shifts in the forthcoming days, weeks and months at Ground Zero.\u201d On Aug. 11, Michael McDonald died of lung\u00a0cancer. He was\u00a064. He is the 181st\u00a0member of the FDNY to die from a 9\/11-related illness, officials said. He retired\u00a0in May 2012 after 28 years of service. He spent his entire career at Ladder 128 in Queens.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Worker dies after being hit by 2,000-pound steel beam near downtown Kansas City<\/h3>\n<p>Kansas City, MO &#8212; A spokesperson for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kctv5.com\/news\/osha-worker-dies-after-being-hit-by--pound-steel\/article_b1f54085-de0a-57c7-b6ff-93acc11a367b.html\">a worker has died<\/a> after being hit by a steel beam Monday in Kansas City. The incident happened about 4:30 p.m. at an industrial site east of downtown.\u00a0 According to the spokesperson, the man was working for Continental Steel Fabrication when he was hit by a 2,000-pound steel beam and killed. Family members have identified the man as <strong>Rick Ham<\/strong>.\u00a0The spokesperson says OSHA has opened an investigation into the incident to determine if the company was following all regulations at the time of the incident.<\/p>\n<h3>Employee opens fire at Texas food warehouse, killing manager, police say<\/h3>\n<p>Missouri City, TX &#8211; A woman opened fire at a large\u00a0food\u00a0warehouse in Texas early Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/dead-including-woman-opened-fire-texas-warehouse-shooting\/story?id=57280205\">killing a manager and injuring a fellow employee<\/a>, authorities said. The alleged shooter, an employee of the warehouse, also died after the incident and subsequent shootout at the Ben E. Keith Foods building in Missouri City, about 20 miles outside of Houston, police said. Employee Kristine Peralez allegedly shot the two victims around 2 a.m. when about 20 to 25 employees were in the facility, according to the Missouri City Police.\u00a0Warehouse manager <strong>Francisco Reyes<\/strong> was shot and died at the scene, police said, and employee Fredencio Janas was hospitalized to be treated for a gunshot wound to his leg.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"title\">Firefighter Killed In Mendocino Complex Died After Fire Retardant\u00a0Drop<\/h3>\n<p>SACRAMENTO, CA\u00a0 \u2014 A preliminary report says a <a href=\"https:\/\/sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com\/2018\/08\/20\/mendocino-complex-fire-batallion-chief-matthew-burchett-investigation\/\">firefighter died last week<\/a> from falling\u00a0<span class=\"vm-hook-outer vm-hook-default\"><span class=\"vm-hook\">tree<\/span><\/span>\u00a0debris after a retardant drop on California\u2019s largest-ever wildfire. The accident happened on Friday, August 17th in Hoover, Alabama. According to police investigations, 56-year-old driver<strong> Anthony Fidel Martin<\/strong> stopped his 2015 Freightliner in the parking lot of the Home Depot off of Highway 280 to \u201cperform a task\u201d when his big rig began to roll.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Serviceman hit, killed by car on I-40<\/h3>\n<p>Conway, AR &#8212; A truck service worker <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paris-express.com\/news\/20180820\/serviceman-hit-killed-by-car-on-i-40\">died after he was hit by a vehicle<\/a> on Interstate 40 in Conway around 2 a.m. Aug. 12, according to an Arkansas State Police report. <strong>Kenneth Weldon-Trase Ellis<\/strong>, 33, of Leslie had just finished repairing a flat tire on a tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder of the 127 mile-marker entrance ramp when he was hit by a 1986 Nissan, authorities said.<\/p>\n<h3>Arab American police officer killed in hit-and-run in Detroit<\/h3>\n<p>DETROIT, MI\u00a0 \u2014\u00a0A Detroit police officer died Wednesday after being<a href=\"https:\/\/www.arabamericannews.com\/2018\/08\/20\/arab-american-police-officer-killed-in-hit-and-run-in-detroit\/\"> struck by a hit-and-run driver<\/a> on Saturday Aug. 4 on the west side of the city.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>At a news conference at the Detroit Public Safety Headquarters, Police Chief James Craig said that officer <strong>Fadi Shukur<\/strong> would \u201calways be remembered for his magnetic smile.\u201d Mayor Mike Duggan and other city and police officials were in attendance.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u201cEveryone\u2019s heart is broken in the city for a good man, a newlywed,\u201d Duggan said. \u201cOur prayers are with his family.\u201d Shukur, 30, was struck while he was walking to his car after assisting other Detroit Police officers responding to a crowd control situation in the area of the 18000 West McNichols. He\u00a0suffered a brain injury and was hospitalized in critical condition until he died Wednesday.<\/p>\n<h3>Fruit Company Driver Killed in Crash<\/h3>\n<p>Yakima, WA &#8212; Evans Fruit Company employee <strong>Eutimio Alvarez<\/strong> was driving a tractor with a sprayer on road when he drove off road, tipping the tractor over. [Source: Washington Department of Labor and Industries]<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Worker dies after falling into vat of oil near Disney World<\/h3>\n<p>Orlando, FL &#8212; A man died after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.10news.com\/news\/worker-dies-after-falling-into-vat-of-oil-near-disney-world\">falling into a vat of oil<\/a> at a plant Disney World uses to recycle food waste, according to the\u00a0Washington Post. The incident happened shortly after midnight Tuesday at a facility near Disney World. According to the Post, two men were emptying oil and grease into the vat when a worker, later identified as 61-year-old <strong>John Korody<\/strong> slipped and fell into the vat. Korody\u2019s co-worker tried to pull him out, but the fumes from the oil and grease overwhelmed both of the men. A spokesperson for Walt Disney World confirmed Korody wasn\u2019t an employee of the resort, but of Harvest Power, the company that converts the food waste into renewable energy.<\/p>\n<h3>Orchard Manager Killed<\/h3>\n<p>Quincy, WA &#8212; Ramiro Zavala, orchard manager for L&amp;B Enterprises was making rounds of orchard on an ATV after checking on night time spray operation when he struck the end of a row of apple bins. He was propelled through the air and suffered fatal head trauma and broken neck.\u00a0 Zavala&#8217;s body was found in the morning by another employee heading to work.\u00a0[Source: Washington Department of Labor and Industries]<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Plumber, Father of 2, Dies in Philadelphia Trench Collapse<\/h3>\n<p class=\"paragraph\" data-pnum=\"1\">PHILADELPHIA, PA &#8211;A worker has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/news\/local\/Trench-Collapse-Worker-Trapped-491037111.html\">died after being trapped in a trench<\/a> in Philadelphia\u2019s East Oak Lane neighborhood Thursday morning. Family members who prayed as they waited hours for word about the man identified him as\u00a0<strong>Anthony Smith,<\/strong> a master plumber and father of two. &#8220;He\u2019s a great family man, he has two beautiful children, a great wife,&#8221;\u00a0family member Kevin Blake told NBC10&#8217;s Aaron Baskerville.\u00a0&#8220;He\u2019s a hard working guy bro, he helps everybody.&#8221; Two other workers were nearby and were not hurt. But Smith, who was in the trench when it collapsed, was trapped for most of the day.\u00a0 Despite lengthy rescue efforts by about 100 responders, he could not be saved. Rescuers worked for about five hours to locate Smith, whose body was found about 15 feet below ground level among concrete, wiring and pipes.
