Illinois this weekend<\/h3>\n<p class=\"speakable-p-1 p-text\">DAHLGREN, Ill. \u2014 An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courierpress.com\/story\/news\/local\/2019\/01\/07\/countrys-first-mining-fatality-2019-s-illinois-weekend\/2502957002\/\">accident at the underground Hamilton County Coal Mine<\/a> near Dahlgren, Illinois, has claimed the life of a Saline County, Illinois, man. <strong>John Ditterline<\/strong>, 55, of Equality, Illinois, was pronounced dead at 4:45 a.m. Saturday. Hamilton County Coroner Steve Bowling said Ditterline was working for Clay, Kentucky-based S &amp; L Industries as a contract employee in the underground mine when he was killed. Workers found Ditterline&#8217;s body near a set of 18 feet wide doors that close automatically, Bowling said.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">L Brands employee dies after being crushed between conveyor belt, boxes<\/h3>\n<p>REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio (WCMH) &#8212; An L Brands, Bath and Body Works employee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc4i.com\/news\/local-news\/l-brands-employee-dies-after-being-crushed-between-conveyor-belt-boxes\/1690196687\">died after he was crushed<\/a>, caught between boxes and a conveyer belt on January 4th, a spokesperson for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) said Monday. According to OSHA spokesperson Larry Johnson, the incident happened around 1:45 a.m. on Jan. 4th at 7 Limited Parkway. Employees were loading product onto a truck using an expandable conveyor when the employee, identified as 56-year-old<strong> Harvey Beavers<\/strong> in the incident report, got pinned between it and boxes, and was crushed. Beavers was pinned in the machinery for about 10 minutes before he was extricated. CPR was performed and he was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. This is the third fatal industrial accident in as many weeks in Central Ohio after a man was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc4i.com\/news\/local-news\/man-crushed-to-death-at-liberty-casting-had-been-injured-on-the-job-before-family-says\/1683956086\">crushed to death at Liberty Casting in Delaware, Ohio<\/a>\u00a0and an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc4i.com\/news\/local-news\/osha-investigating-fatal-accident-at-fluvitex\/1676551881\">employee was killed at the Fluvitex\u00a0facility.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">2 men killed in industrial accident at Cantua Creek ranch in Fresno County<\/h3>\n<p>FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) &#8212; Two men were <a href=\"https:\/\/abc30.com\/industrial-accident-results-in-2-fatalities-in-fresno-county\/5021183\/\">killed after being caught under a tree nut shaker<\/a> at a ranch in Cantua Creek in Fresno County.\u00a0\u00a0Fresno County Fire responded to the incident just around 11:20 a.m. on Saturday, where they found a 66-year-old man and a 31-year-old man had been crushed while trying to make a repair on the machine.\u00a0\u00a0According to deputies, the workers were trying to disconnect hydraulic hoses under the shaker when the arm fell. Both men were pronounced dead when paramedics arrived.\u00a0&#8220;The machine shaker arms <a href=\"https:\/\/abc30.com\/my-dad-loved-everyone-unconditionally-daughter-of-killed-farm-worker-says-\/5026740\/\">weren&#8217;t functioning properly<\/a> ad one of the workers had gone under the machine to fix the hoses for the hydraulic lines and the arms fell down and crushed them,&#8221; Lieutenant Devins said.\u00a0Family members have identified one of the victims as 66-year-old <strong>Arnold Torres<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"article-headline--title\">Worker dies after work-related accident in Greenville County, coroner says<\/h3>\n<p>GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. \u2014\u00a0A man <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyff4.com\/article\/man-dies-after-work-related-incident-in-greenville-county-coroner-says\/25742382\">died after a work-related incident<\/a> in Greenville County on Friday, the coroner said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The death has been ruled accidental. A spokeswoman for the state Department of Labor says the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating and has six months to complete its review.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Tow Truck Driver Killed in Hit-And-Run on Grand Prairie Interstate<\/h3>\n<p class=\"paragraph\" data-pnum=\"1\">Dallas, TX &#8211; The son of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcdfw.com\/news\/local\/Tow-Truck-Driver-Killed-in-Hit-And-Run-on-Grand-Prairie-Interstate-503891071.html\">tow truck driver struck and killed<\/a> in a hit-and-run crash as he helped a woman stranded on Interstate 20 early Friday morning is asking for help finding the driver that killed his father. According to Joshua Mosby, his cousin, 46-year-old <strong>Keith Holt<\/strong>, said he was headed out to help a client who was stuck on the highway with her child. While helping that woman in the westbound lanes of Interstate 20, near the South Great Southwest Parkway overpass, Holt was fatally struck by a passing vehicle.\u00a0 The driver, believed to be behind the wheel of a 2012-2015 white or multi-colored Nissan Altima, kept going. Holt died at the scene.<\/p>\n<h3>Log truck driver killed in Counce crash<\/h3>\n<p>Counce, TN &#8212; The driver of a tractor-trailer hauling logs was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courieranywhere.com\/2019\/01\/03\/log-truck-driver-killed-in-counce-crash\/\">killed Thursday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash<\/a> on Tenn. 57 in Counce just west of the railroad tracks. The Tennessee Highway Patrol said <strong>Stacey L. Ballard<\/strong>, 40, of Sardis, Tennessee, was driving east on the highway when the 18-wheeler veered off the right side of the roadway and overturned.<br \/>\nAlcohol and drugs were not cited as factors and Ballard was wearing a seatbelt, the THP said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<h3>Waste Service employee dies at landfill near Lawrence<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>OSKALOOSA, Kan. | Jefferson County authorities said a waste services employee died at a landfill north of Lawrence. Sheriff Jeff Herrig said the man, who died Friday morning, was an employee of Hamm Waste Services in Jefferson County. The victim\u2019s name has not been released. Herrig said the man was crushed behind a semi-trailer that was being backed up to a machine used to empty large amounts of waste. [Source: Washington Department of Labor and Industries]<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Teen crushed to death by granite slabs at Palm River-Clair Mel supplier<\/h3>\n<p>Tampa, FL &#8212; 16-year-old crushed to death by granite &#8211; Authorities say a 16-year-old was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfla.com\/1686825744?fbclid=IwAR3b_fak_Cy__GsELj7ZfTIAcUgDfBvLekEzxUszU45DA2ZSnFIIXl9S1aQ\">killed after slabs of granite apparently came crashing down on him<\/a> at a supplier in Palm River-Clair Mel. The incident took place at Galaxy Granite &amp; Cabinets, 1618 51st St S. at about 3:30 p.m. on New Year&#8217;s Day.\u00a0 Deputies responded to reports of a person down and found the teenager under multiple pieces of granite that appeared to have fallen on top of him, authorities said. His name was not released.\u00a0Authorities say the incident was work-related and no foul play is suspected.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Man crushed to death at Liberty Casting had been injured on the job before, family says<\/h3>\n<p>DELAWARE, Ohio (WCMH) &#8212; <strong>Michael Crow<\/strong>, 72, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc4i.com\/news\/local-news\/man-crushed-to-death-at-liberty-casting-had-been-injured-on-the-job-before-family-says\/1683956086\">killed Friday morning<\/a> when\u00a0a piece of equipment crushed him while working at Liberty Casting Friday morning. His family tells NBC4 it wasn&#8217;t the first injury he had received on the job. NBC4 obtained records from the explosion at the iron foundry\u00a0in August 22, 2018, which burned several workers with molten iron. One of the victims\u00a0died from their injuries, Larry Johnson with OSHA said. Those records show Liberty Casting received multiple violations and was fined more than $70,000\u00a0as a result. Just over four months later, Michael Crow\u00a0died in an unrelated industrial accident at the foundry.<\/p>\n<h3>Worker Crushed In North Hollywood Identified<\/h3>\n<p>NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA \u2014 A worker killed on New Year&#8217;s Eve <a href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/california\/northhollywood\/worker-crushed-north-hollywood-identified\">when a car was dropped on him<\/a> at a North Hollywood facility was identified Wednesday by the coroner&#8217;s office. Sixty-three-year-old <strong>Bruce Runyon<\/strong>, of Winnetka, was crushed to death when a car that was raised on a floor jack fell on him, according to coroner&#8217;s Lt. Larry Dietz. Runyon was trapped underneath the vehicle, and firefighters worked to free him, but they couldn&#8217;t save him, accoding to the Los Angeles Fire Department.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Nail salon worker killed over $35 manicure at Las Vegas nail salon<\/h3>\n<p>Las Vegas, NV &#8212; &#8211; Las Vegas police are searching for a woman accused of using a stolen car to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wivb.com\/news\/nail-salon-worker-killed-over-35-manicure-at-las-vegas-nail-salon\/1682634947\">run over and kill a nail salon worker<\/a> after failing to pay for a $35 manicure. The Clark County Coroner&#8217;s Office identified the manicurist as 51-year-old <strong>Ngoc Q. Nguyen<\/strong> of Garden Grove, California, and said the cause of death was multiple blunt-force injuries.\u00a0The woman got a manicure Saturday at a salon about a mile and a half from the Las Vegas Strip, but her credit card was declined when she went to pay.The woman went to her car, telling salon workers she would come back to pay another way but then tried to drive away, according to police Lt. Ray Spencer. The man got out of his car and called out for help. A nearby resident called 911.The man was taken to the hospital. His age, identity and condition have not been released.<\/p>\n<h3>Man killed in high-rise parking garage fire in River North\u00a0identified<\/h3>\n<p>Chicago, IL &#8212; Authorities have identified a roofing worker was <a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/news\/1-dead-4-injured-high-rise-parking-garage-fire-near-north-side\/\">killed when a fire broke out<\/a> as they worked on top of a River North parking garage Saturday afternoon, seriously injuring four others, according to the Chicago Fire Department.\u00a0<strong>Terrell Webster<\/strong>, a 47-year-old construction worker, was found dead at the scene, according to fire officials and the Cook County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office. A ruling on the cause and manner of his death\u00a0was pending further investigation following an autopsy Monday. The blaze started about 1:20 p.m. in the penthouse elevator area of the Mart Parc Orleans garage at 437 N. Adkins<\/strong>, 29, of Rogersville, was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<h3>2 Weeks Into Her Job, Intern Killed By Lion At North Carolina Sanctuary<\/h3>\n<p>Caswell County, NC &#8212; A lion at a North Carolina private wildlife sanctuary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndtv.com\/world-news\/2-weeks-into-her-job-intern-killed-by-lion-at-north-carolina-sanctuary-1970338\">fatally mauled a 22-year-old worker<\/a> on Sunday before being shot and killed by local law enforcement, officials said. The sheriff&#8217;s office in Caswell County, North Carolina, said <strong>Alexandra Black<\/strong>, who started her job as an intern at the facility two weeks ago, was part of a team doing routine cleaning of an enclosure when she was attacked, local media reported. (KAKE) &#8211;\u00a0<\/span>A Union Pacific Railroad employee has been\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kake.com\/story\/39714309\/railroad-employee-dies-in-train-accident-in-northwest-kansas\">killed in an accident at a crossing<\/a> in northwest Kansas. Railroad officials said the incident happened at around 9 p.m. Sunday near Highway 83 and East Front Street in Oakley. An employee onboard the train died. That person has not been identified.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"headline\">Winlock Man Dies in Accident at TransAlta Coal Mine Pond<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Centralia, WA &#8212; An employee working on a project to recover coal from a pond at TransAlta\u2019s Centralia mine site Saturday night was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chronline.com\/crime\/employee-dies-in-accident-at-transalta-coal-mine-pond\/article_7796a1d4-0d2e-11e9-a6be-af2f84367761.html\">killed after a barge used in the dredging operation sunk<\/a>, according to the Lewis County Sheriff\u2019s Office. The Lewis County Coroner\u2019s Office identified the man Monday morning as <strong>Caleb D. Brown<\/strong>, 28, of Winlock. A n employee of a contractor was working on a 72-foot barge in a pond in an effort to dredge the pond to reclaim coal from the mud, according to the sheriff\u2019s office.\u00a0A supervisor reported last having contact with the employee at 7:30 p.m. At 7:45 p.m., employees realized the dredging operation had stopped and the power to the barge was shut off. The barge was held in place by a cable and powered by a high-voltage line.\u00a0Employees then discovered the barge had sunk and was under about 20-feet of water.
