On average, over 100 workers are killed every week in the United States due to traumatic injuries suffered at work. More than 20 times as many die from occupational diseases, many due to exposure to hazardous substances many years before they died. The few narratives below (gathered from almost 100 Google News searches) do not come close to capturing the full toll that work takes on the working people of this country. Nevertheless the accounts below gave you a taste of the preventable carnage occurring in workplaces across the country every day.<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

New Iberia, LA — The dead body of an Arby’s manager<\/a> was found in the restaurant’s freezer by workers, according to a report by KPLC reported. Police are treating the death as suspicious. The body was found on Thursday evening at the Arby\u2019s in New Iberia, Louisiana. It’s unknown when the manager, a female, was last seen, according to reports. Police have identified the worker as 63-year old Nguyet Le.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One person killed at 3M plant after ‘industrial incident’<\/h3>\n

ARDOT worker dies after being hit by vehicle on I-430<\/h3>\n

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. \u2014 A Little Rock man has died after he was hit by a vehicle<\/a> driving in the northbound lane of I-430 on Monday afternoon. According to reports, 25-year-old Timothy Harris<\/strong> was a maintenance worker for ARDOT who had been on the job for about two months. He was called to clear debris in the roadway near exit 9 Cantrell after the Rodney Parham interchange. A spokesperson for ARDOT explained that Harris went out to clear the debris around 1:00 p.m. in a marked truck while wearing a safety vest. There was apparently a shovel in the roadway, and he went to move it out of the way. Witnesses said it looked like he misjudged his chances of getting back to the side of the road. He quickly threw the shovel out of the way, when one vehicle avoided hitting Harris and then turned in the opposite direction of the shovel. This is when a second driver hit Harris. He was then taken to the hospital where he died shortly before 10:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

West Babylon, NY — Suffolk County Police Homicide detectives are investigating an industrial accident that killed a man in West Babylon today. Marcos Bonilla<\/b> was killed in an accident on May 8 at Omni Recycling in West Babylon when he was struck by a payloader<\/a> at approximately 1 p.m. The adult male, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene. 23-year-old security guard killed in downtown shooting<\/h3>\n

OMAHA, Neb. \u2014 23-year-old Gom Gout <\/strong>died after a shooting in Downtown Omaha near 10th and Capitol early Sunday morning, while he was working as a security guard<\/a>. Police got into a shootout with the suspect, in which a long gun was used. One of the Cameron police officers was shot. A software engineer at Google fell to his death at the tech company\u2019s Manhattan offices, according to a report. A 31-year-old man plunged to his death on Thursday evening around 11.30pm, according to the New York Post, citing police sources. The man reportedly worked at the search engine\u2019s office located at 111 8th Avenue in Chelsea. He was found on the street unconscious and taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Handprints and footprints were reportedly found at an open-air terrace on the Google building\u2019s 14th floor. The man left no note before the fatal fall. Thursday\u2019s incident is the second reported death of a New York City Google employee in just over two months. On February 16, Jacob Pratt, a 33-year-old partnership leader at the company, was found dead in his apartment. His death was ruled a suicide.<\/p>\n

First responders were dispatched about 3:03pm to the Industrial Boulevard business. The man, identified as Jerry Lamar Norris, 34, of Chatsworth was airlifted to a Chattanooga hospital for emergency treatment. Norris later succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital, police said.<\/p>\n

2 people sought in connection to deadly shooting of Toledo store employee<\/h3>\n

TOLEDO, Wash. \u2014 The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding two gunmen who are believed to be involved in the killing of a Toledo store employee<\/a>. Someone called the sheriff’s office just before 9 p.m. Wednesday to report that they saw two masked people run out of a store in the 100 block of Mulford Road in Toledo and get into a white extended cab Dodge pick-up truck. North Carolina construction worker, a father of 4, killed in crash on I-40<\/h3>\n

Indiana State Police describe the events leading to the crash: \u201cAfter the preliminary investigation, Troopers believe a White 2013 Volvo semi-truck pulling a car-hauling trailer was merging into the eastbound lane of I-64 from the Corydon exit. At the same time, a Red 2014 Volvo semi-truck, pulling an empty box trailer, was eastbound on I-64 approaching the same exit. As the white semi merged into the slow lane of the interstate, the red semi collided with the rear of the car hauler trailer. The impact of the crash then pushed both vehicles off into the emergency lane on the south side of I-64, where both vehicles came to rest.\u201d The driver hauling the cars wasn\u2019t seriously hurt. The business is in a relatively isolated area just north of Suffolk Executive Airport. The crash happened just after midnight Wednesday on I-10 at milepost 331 near Willcox. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a semi ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a guardrail, and then collided with a pillar at the State Route 191 overpass. One pillar buckled and the truck caught fire. The driver was killed. Their name has not yet been released. DPS officials later confirmed that no hazardous materials were being transported.<\/p>\n
