Milford Woman In Norwood Skyline Fall Dies
MILFORD, MA — A worker who fell through a skyline on Broadway in Norwood Tuesday has died. Norwood Chief William Brooks announced on Twitter Thursday that the victim has succumbed to injures sustained in the fall. The woman has been identified as Jessica Castro of Milford. Tuesday, police responded to a report that a woman was seriously injured in a 30-foot fall through a skyline on Broadway. OSHA officials have been notified of the incident. A worker told WFXT that Castro was working for a subcontractor and that skylights often have a barrier around them. It is unknown if there was a barrier around the skylights in this incident.
3 victims identified in deadly Wisconsin corn mill explosion
MADISON, Wis. — – The body of a third worker was recovered Friday from the ruins of a corn mill that exploded in southern Wisconsin, two days after an explosion at the facility. Numerous fire crews raced to the scene of the explosion late Wednesday at the Didion Milling Plant in Cambria, about 45 miles northeast of Madison, Wisconsin, CBS affiliate WISC-TV reports. The blast leveled most of the plant. Nearly a dozen workers were taken to hospitals following the explosion and fire. Didion Milling Plant executive Derrick Clark told reporters during a news conference Friday afternoon that emergency crews recovered packing machine operator Pawel Tordoff’s body from the rubble earlier that morning. “The loss of these three team members is a very emotional incident for us and has really torn a hole in the heart of the Didion Milling team and the Cambria community,” Clark said. Clark said Friday that mill operator Duelle Block, fork lift operator Robert Goodenow and Tordoff died in the explosion and fire.
CHERRY HILL, NJ – A federal safety agency is investigating a window washer’s fatal fall at a township apartment complex. The worker, whose name was not released, plunged 14 stories Wednesday at Cherry Hill Towers on Route 38, according to the U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration.

Construction Worker Killed Near US-Mexico Border Identified
San Diego, CA — Authorities Thursday publicly identified a worker killed in a construction accident near the U.S.-Mexico border as a 56-year-old Wyoming man. Frederick Von Kahl was killed while working on a drill rig at the site on Camiones Way in San Ysidro late Wednesday morning, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was struck in the chest by a hose, which knocked him off an elevated platform, according to news reports. The victim had worked for Earth Tech Well Drilling, which was subcontracting for Atkinson/Clark, according to NBC7.

Coroner: 1 killed, 2 injured in accident at Calhoun Co. plant
CALHOUN COUNTY, SC — A Columbia man was killed and two others injured in an accident at a Calhoun County chemical plant Tuesday, officials said. The accident happened around 12:15 p.m. at the DAK Americas plant on K Avenue, according to Calhoun County Coroner Donnie Porth. The man killed in the accident was identified as Alton Zeigler, 63, of Columbia. An autopsy is pending. Site manager Mark Leonhardt said three employees were performing annual maintenance on a polymer pump. He couldn’t provide specifics on the incident or confirm if an explosion occurred.
Construction worker, 20, killed after falling through skylight at water treatment plant
MASON COUNTY, Mich. –A 20-year-old construction worker was killed after he fell 30 feet at the Ludington Water Treatment Plant Wednesday afternoon, according to the Mason County Press. The plant is on N. Lakeshore Drive just north of Stearns Park. Ludington’s city manager says the man fell through a skylight and onto an empty concrete clarifier. The man was airlifted to a hospital in Grand Rapids, where he was pronounced dead. The Mason County Press reports the man was an employee of Davis Construction out of Lansing. Employee dies after falling nearly 30 feet from building roof
Morganton, NC — What police believe to be a tragic industrial accident ended up killing a Lenoir man on Wednesday morning in Morganton. Thomas William Mauck, 27, was killed after he fell approximately 25 to 30 feet from the roof of Leviton Inc., according to Capt. T. Devinney with Morganton Department of Public Safety. Mauck fell through a fire vent door from the roof of Leviton where he was employed, according to a statement from the North Carolina Department of Labor.
“Based upon preliminary information, a 27-year old male was on the roof of the facility attempting to open a fire vent door when the door flew open, hitting him in the head,” the statement said. “The employee fell through the door, and was transported to Carolinas Medical Center, and was later pronounced deceased.”

Autopsy doesn’t explain why Valdosta worker died
MOULTRIE, Ga. — An autopsy performed on a young Valdosta man who collapsed on Monday at a Moultrie construction site and later died did not turn up an apparent cause of death. William Dane Gilliland, 23, collapsed while working at a site on Rowland Drive between 8 and 8:30 a.m., Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock said. He was pronounced dead at 9:06 a.m. at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. “He was working with a construction company out of Valdosta doing foundation work for some additional buildings at Colquitt EMC,” Brock said.
2 Killed in Explosion at West Virginia Industrial Plant
Philippi, WV — An explosion at a West Virginia industrial plant has killed two people and injured a third. Officials say the explosion was reported last week at Midland Resource Recovery, a company based in Ontario, Canada, that odorizes natural gas. The U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration said owner Jan Strmen and employee Justin Marsh were using bleach and preparing a tank for cleaning at the facility outside Philippi when it exploded shortly before noon May 24.
Construction worker killed at water treatment plant
Marshall, MO — The Marshall Fire Department responded to a call regarding a male who had fallen from the top of a construction tank on Tuesday, May 30. MFD officials arrived on scene at the Marshall Water Treatment Plant, located on Highway N near Malta Bend, approximately eight minutes after receiving the call at 11:58 a.m. The department went to provide mutual aid with Saline County Ambulance. According to a Saline County Sheriff’s Department news release, a 46-year-old male, identified as Scot Lesmeister, of Butler, was fatally injured after falling 20 feet from the top of a tank at the water plant.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A 58-year-old worker died over the Memorial Day weekend nearly two weeks after he was injured in a fall on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, according to his union and an online obituary. Thomas F. Ryan, 58, of Sayreville, N.J., died on Saturday at NYU Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, according to information from the obituary and his union. A “loyal member” of Iron Workers Union Local #361 for 27 years, the shop steward was a structural ironworker who worked the upper deck replacement project on the span, according to a union statement and source.
