BALDWIN TAKES FRANKEN’S PLACE: Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) on Thursday became the new ranking member of the Senate HELP Committee’s Employment and Workplace Safety subcommittee. She was approved in a voice vote to replace former Sen. Al Franken, who resigned amid sexual harassment allegations.
The HELP Committee also re-approved four DOL nominees: Patrick Pizzella for deputy labor secretary, Scott Mugno for assistant labor secretary for occupational safety and health, Cheryl Stanton for administrator of the wage and hour division, and William Beach for commissioner of labor statistics. The nominees had been approved by the committee last year, but their nominations expired at the end of 2017 because they never went to the Senate floor.
