Are you a college or graduate student interested in work, workers and workplace safety and health? Do you want to make a contribution to helping workers fight for safer working conditions? Do you want to learn from the people who know workplaces best — the workers themselves — and make a real impact!
Well, you’ve come to the right place. Applications for the Occupational Health Internship Program (OHIP) Summer 2026 are now officially open.

OHIP is a full time, paid summer internship designed to link the skills and interests of students with the needs of workers employed in an under-served or high hazard job while helping you learn about the field of occupational safety and health from those with most at stake: working people.  It’s a hands-on experience that allows students to make a real impact while developing valuable skills. Teams of two interns are assigned to a union or worker organization where they receive supervision from a designated staff member and an academic mentor. The 2026 OHIP training sites are Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Durham, NC, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and San Francisco Bay Area. Additional sites may be announced after the opening of the application period.

You can take a look at past OHIP projects here.

The 2026 online application deadline is January 30, 2026. Applications must be submitted by 11:59pmPST.
